TI Jazz Flats rule for me...

Significantly lower tension than the Sunbeams? I'm just not sure I would want strings that felt much looser.

I'm not sure how to answer because it is subjective.

On rounds, I slap and pop and treat the strings differently for my tone than I do playing a bass with flats. With flats, it's just finger plucking and some tapping, and because I play with a light touch, the tension doesn't seem to affect me as it does other players.

The TIJFs definitely have less tension, but not enough to bother me.

But reading this thread, some guys ARE bothered, so I don't know how to answer.

It's less, but it's not at all bad for me... that's about the best I can do.

In fact, sometimes if I have to practice a lot before a gig, I'll learn the lines on my bass with the TIJFs, just so I can save my hand a bit of wear and tear before the gig that night, so they come in handy that way.

I have read every page of this thread and I still can't quite decide if I want to try the Labellas or the TI's.

They are pricey as strings go - so I want to be sure - and everyone here makes a great case for the TI's - but then so many other people seem to Love the Labella's

I switched from rounds to TIJFs on my 2007 LE 4HH Sterling, I swapped out the pickups for Nordstrand MM4.3s, as I was looking for more of a stingray tone in a Sterling body. I also rewired the selector switch.

With the TIJFs, playing the bridge pickup, I get the smoothest, warmest R&B tone; and then if I play the bridge pickup I get just enough growl and low end to satisfy my funk side.

I used to agonize everytime over what roundwounds to get, then I discovered TIs and will never go back.

I think another thing to consider is if you bend strings or not. If you do at all, you would take the TI's over laBellas any day. Plus, they (TIs) are lighter gauge than most bass strings- but you most certainly will notice the difference between TI's and Labellas. Even so, I still believe that the TIs feel and sound better than Labellas...

The only reason I would go Labella having tried both would be if I wanted a 60's motown sound exclusively- but I still believe that it can be achieved via TIs. And besides I appreciate Jamerson and Babbitt... but I want my own sound at that

LMAO... after reading my post I can see where lump is coming from. I assure you I am just another retired NY'er living in sunny Florida.

It's only that I was so blown away by the 760FL's (like many of you were with your first encounter with TIJF's), that I had to share my experience. Maybe a bit overboard but that's the NYC in me.

Oh, and if E&O Mari is reading this, I am available for "shill" duty.
