Tiers Amplification

I probably am...... I was up for the draft in 1970.

I would have to look in the old mags file.... I got dB until it was no longer "gettable", which I thought was lots earlier than the 90's...... but I don't remember for sure without looking.

RE/P was a decent mag...... nothing after it really lived up to either RE/P or dB....

I probably recall RE/P being in existence after dB magazine, which is how I figured one morphed out of the other.... It was a long time ago....

As for the music biz........

Anyone who cares to can make a good product.....companies with really good products fail all the time. The real deal isn't the product, its the other stuff... marketing it successfully, getting production, QC, service, etc going, and, of course, reliably making payroll.

The way the music equipment biz is right now, a lot of those things are not so easy as they were in 1965 through 1990, say.

So what direction would you go in if you did?

... it so happens that I know the Power Block guy pretty well (he is making high dollar custom basses at the moment) , and some other folks too..... so it could be done...

A Bass version of the PowerBlock would be high on my wish list, making some assumptions about how it would differ from the guitar product (I own), and assuming it could be done at a similar price point.

But if I were in the wind energy biz, I would not find the MI industry very tempting.

It'd be nice if the Bass PowerBlock design could be sold, but if not, I think someone will eventually bring a similar product to market.

BTW, I had a conversation with a Crate support guy about the PowerBlock. I asked why it had been discontinued. He said it was mostly because guitar players ignored the output ratings. It was 75w stereo into 4ohms/channel or 150w bridged into 8ohms. Too many guitar players were plugging 4ohm cabs into the bridged output, blowing the amp, then submitting for warranty repair.
