Having met Tim several times - he just doesn't seem the kind of guy to steal designs.

+1. I've met him too. He seemed to be a good guy. As others have suggested, I suspect the web designer used the links while mocking up the site and forgot to remove them before going live.

There is bound to be a good explanation for this. I'm sure any builder who wants to be reputable will not blatantly link to another builders site. Or he has more nerve than a government crow. 
I find this quote interesting, because a big part of his relative popularity came about because he would do copies of any body style, and did a bunch of Fodera Monarch and Zon Legacy copies, among others.

Doug McClure has taken the responsibilty and removed the images and links from the Salas Bass site. He claims he acted on his own without any input from Tim Salas, only as a temporary measure to give his client some ideas. My apologies to Tim if this is the case.

just my opinion, but I think Mr. Salas should know the content of his site. Maybe I am too persnickity, but I used to keep quite close tabs on my site, and when my new one goes up next month, I will again.

On that Bass Alone site, there's a Japanese made STR that looks like a Carvin. Brice's V2 bass designs look like Dean. I've always liked Tobias' MTD look, but like the way that Roscoes feel and play better. I've seen luthiers offer "their" designs (and I'm sure a patent would have to go along with it)...but is a "design" the actual body shape, the neck shape, the headstock shape, or are you looking at the whole instrument?
If I'm ordering a custom bass with an MTD styled body, with a Spector-type belly cut, a neck that feels like a Roscoe and a head stock that looks like a double bass scroll cut (not that I would order that, but that's beside the point), and I'm willing to pay for it, just a slight deviation from the precise measurements would make it a truly "custom" piece.
