Time to complete some old projects

I am thinking why not 4, 5, 4 then 5 again so looking at the lefty 4 string. Trying to decide on fretboard. I narrowed down to these three. Ipe on the left, Macassar ebony in the middle and a dark piece of Indian rosewood on the right. My first instinct is for the Ipe to work with the walnut and nogal used. Second would be the ebony for its striping. Last the rosewood as a catch all. Hmmmmm?

That piece of ebony is pretty sweet. Love the feel of an ebony fretboard

So the ebony is too short the lefty's fingerboard and the rosewood is off so I think I will settle on the Ipe for the fingerboard. It will be fretted so that should break up the expanse.
First off though is it's time to wire up the Teak five string. Just using a simple VVT setup with coil tapping for the humbuckers.

I can't put my finger on exactly why but I love this bass. I'm a sucker for dark woods and this one just speaks to me. Very nice work, glad you're finishing it!
Thank you. I will probably put it for sale in the classifieds once done. Cleaning out old unfinished projects and scaling down. The finish on this is 32 years old. Just polished it out some and leaving it as is. It will be a new vintage bass:woot:;)!

I have the Teak five string ready to wire up. Thinking of having a LCR network switchable for the tone circuit. Basically switch from a standard cap to a inductor/cap/resister network inspired by the Bill Lawarence design. Hoping I'll get some time later today.

Okay so got a chance to wire up the fretless teak 5 string. Almost done but need a break (one more pickup to go). Nothing special here just a coil tap for each pickup (when both are tapped they will still be humbucking) and a switchable tone cap (.02 or .04). I had a extra switch from the original piezo design so thought I would try different caps just to see.

Do you have some sort of never-ending supply of already amazing half-built basses laying around? Where do I find a pile like that? Every single one of these you dig up is stunning and you're over there like "I really need to finish up all this junk laying around my shop....." while I'm over here looking like @Fat Freddy just              .

Seriously, I'm in awe. Both of your work and your supply of projects.

I'm trying to get this stuff out of the way so I can complete my newest personal bass (see thread "6 string Fretless with Ebony Neck"). I thank you for the kind words though. I appreciate them. There are still several old projects not considered good enough for this listo_O. Oh and you should see the pile of pending new projects:woot:!

I wonder what the theme will be? If it aligns with stuff I have at hand I may join in (time allowing of course).
Last I heard it was gonna be "5". So there has to be something with a "5" in there. 5-strings, 5 lams, 5 color burst, 5 knobs, 5-headed cat on the logo, something. And they are trying to figure out how to reward more "5"s.

But, don't quote me on that. Just going with what I had read over the past month and I kind of tuned out a couple weeks ago so it may have changed since then.
