Boy, you guys are TOUGH!! Admittedly, it's been 10 years since I saw the Eagles perform, but in that show , he only changed basses once, and I have no idea why. (They were both 4-strings, fretted!)

It may have been cold out.

It could be different sounds he wanted.

It could be nostalgia and he's doing his last tour (like Geddy). So he just wants to rock each bass again before calling it quits.

if I could find a way to play every bass I own every show I do, I would. I don't like them feeling neglected. and I love them all.

The most critical skill for every person on a tour (musician or tech crew) is the ability to kill time - without developing self destructive habits (second clause is key). If you don't have your tech constantly occupied, it gives them more time to develop self destructive habits, or....simply fall asleep backstage. Either is bad news when you get to the point where you really NEED their help.

Or maybe he's just a Diva, or....justifying to his wife why he has 27 basses (Honey, every tune needs a different bass). None of us (nudge nudge, wink wink) can sympathize, I'm sure. ;-)
