Tiny Basses

I am constantly keeping an eye out for "tiny" bass's and here is what I have so far.

Hofner - own a low end model and it's perfect for my needs/reason having a smaller bass in my collection.
Steinberger - would love one and almost did but had serious neck issues. There is a guy that specializes in refurbishing them but his prices start at 3k. 2k is the most I will ever pay for a bass.
Travel Guitars/Bass - I love the concept but just think they lack in quality

If there is any I do not know of (which these are the only ones I know of) please post them.

By “tiny” do you mean still keeping a 34” scale but the overall size is reduced? If so Zon’s VB4/VB5/VB6 models are quite compact basses.

I never heard of either one of these and very cool. Why haven't I heard of these? I am constantly looking around and never seen these at any guitar location, and when I search all the shopping places never stumbled onto them.

The number of bass models one never hears of is likely larger than the number they have.
This is especially true if they haven’t spent a ton of time on TalkBass

Look at that, you live in CT and clearly a ZON fan. So with all those facts, do you have a place where you seen Zon's?

I currently own two, and have owned two others in the past (including a VB4). I really don’t go to guitar stores anymore to check out basses. Most of the time when I’m trying out a new brand or model I either buy a used bass so that I can resell for about what I paid if I don’t like it, or I try them at TalkBass get-togethers, which usually have at least a dozen models I’ve never tried, along with lots that I have.

The Zon Vinny (VB) models are only built to order, not available through a retailer. There's a "Build your VB" link to get a price.

i have a traveler tp-4b and do not find it lacking in quality. it would not compete quality-wise with a zon or status bass, but i think it compares quite favorably with basses in its price range (hofner). biggest issue i have with it is the awkward access to the tuners. resale value does not seem so good on these so look out for a used model for savings.

I used to have a Hohner Jack bass. Simple, passive, two humbuckers, Steinberger tuning system (double ball ends), headless, lightweight. Great playability, sound, and lightweight. Fit into a guitar case. No tiny, but tiny compared to a Fender.

I have a Hohner B2V, a Steinberger copy from the same era as the Jack Bass. Yes, I agree with ThudThudThud -- these are KILLER instruments! I've had mine since the early 90s and it continues to impress!

The Music Man Caprice has a very compact body.. Nice bass guitar. Very nice.

I once had an Amena bass. It was an SG copy and the same size as regular 6-string. It was a total POS and not even worth keeping for novelty value. I had gotten it on Ebay. It was so cheap that it wasn't worth the trouble of trying to get my money back. A local store took it off my hands for a pittance worth of store credit.
