Titan V12 owners!

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you DAcat...I have been doing lots of reading on the big tube heads but I keep hearing so many good things about the Titan. I too am interested in hearing how this compares to the GBE1200 and maybe also the B1500 if anyone has A/B'ed them.

Here's a clip of one of my all-time favorite bass players who is now using a Titan V12. Can anyone say for sure if this is what he is using in this clip?? Would this be a fairly accurate display of the V12 (minus the octave divider, or whatever effect he is using)?

Well lets keep each other updated on our quest for tubey tone...Peace...DAcat

I was wondering if anyone has owned / compared/ AB'd the GBE1200 and the Titan V-12 and can compare an contrast the two heads. I'd really appreciated it. Peace...DAcat:cool:

I owned a GBE750...

The GBE is WAAAAAY more punchy. The Titan is WAAAAAY warmer/thicker.

However, the beauty of the Titan is it's ability to stay somewhat punchy sounding without loosing any of the warmth.

My drummer liked the GBE a lot more... because it really was 'tight,' but the Titan just brings a more complex and fulfilling sound too me.

Hey Billscools...Thanks for the input...Punchy and Warm that sounds great!! Man I cannot wait to hear the V-12. When I put the SansAmp BDDI in front of my GBE1200, it did warm it up considerably as well as maintain the punch. If Jaun Nelson was playing a Titan V-12, in that video above, he certainly sounded very punchy. Peace ...DAcat

Someone mentioned it before... but that looks like two 600s in that rack.

The Titan is little bit of a different animal. But for a more vintagy tube like sound, the headroom of the Titan keeps things nice and tight down low.

It's possible that it could be (2) Mpulse 600's. According to Mesa's site he does use the 600's as well. Here is Juan's gear list from Mesa's site:

4x10 RoadReady Bass Cab
Walkabout Scout 1x12 Combo-4 ohm
M-Pulse 600
Big Block Titan V-12 Rackmount Bass Amp

I just need to play through the Mesa amps so I can hear for myself what they sound like. It's too bad that you have to be in a larger city before you can find a dealer. I wish Mesa made it a little easier to try out their gear. Our band has a gig in San Antonio, TX in June and there are a couple of dealers in the area so hopefully I will get to try them out then.

Looks to me like 2 M-Pulse 600 amps. There is a (relatively) good shot of them 40 seconds in and there is no coloring in the middle of the amps as there is on the Titan, shown here:

Just tossing out my $.02. Either way, it sounds fantastic!

yeah, berg by itself.

and yes, i have to be careful sometimes with my volume. it pushes the cab pretty cab, but i think the cab likes it :smug:

I'd like to know if I could get away with the BB750? The Titan is a lot of amp but I can imagine it would sound great through the NV610. I've seen a post or two saying that the BB750 is a little underpowered which you don't usually hear about with Mesa amps. A few have said the same of the MP600. I definitely don't want underpowered, but I also don't really need overkill.

I think that some of the "underpowered" comments might have to do with clean volume. I found that my MP600 had a hard time staying clean at higher volumes. It struck me as "SS that wants to be tube", meaning that it started breaking up early like a tube amp (it is definitely the tubiest sounding amp that I have owned). If the BB750 is similar to this, then I can see how it could be considered "underpowered" as well.

FWIW, the M6 Carbine stays clean almost all the way up and gets STUPID loud. However, it does not strike me as nearly as tubey as the M-Pulse/Big Block series amps, which is what Mesa was going for.

I have a BB750 driving 2-ohms, 2 Aggie GS212 cabs. I haven't had a problem with volume or lack of headroom.

Regarding looking like possibly being an MP600, due to resemblance... I've read several times that the Titan V12 is basically a pair of BB750 preamps, with a bigger power amp behind them. And the newer models are in a black theme, more like the Carbines.

I'd be running a single 4ohm NV610 so the 750 would only do 550w. My LMII and TA501 which both claim to do 500w at 4ohm sound good with the Berg but I feel like they struggle a bit with headroom at the upper volumes I require. I would be concerned that the extra 50w of the Mesa wouldn't be enough of a change even though its generally felt that "Mesa watts" are more honestly (for lack of a better word) rated. Just doing a little thinking outloud.

I was thinking about swapping out my Titan for a BB750 since I never go past about "2" on my Titan  But I got a lot of PMs saying it doesn't really sound the same.

A/Bing the Titan with my M-pulse 600, I found that the Titan was less shiny, squishy, and furry than the M-pulse. It was tighter down low with a more direct and immediate punch that sits in the mix a little better. Considering my high praise for the M-pulse (which is still the #2 best head I've ever used) ... that is impressive! Overall it is a fairly similar tone, still a Mesa sound ... until you kick in the overdrive that is. :bassist:

The Titan sounds amazing with Aguilar GS 12" cabinets by the way, even better than the M-pulse did (which seemed to prefer the Mesa PH12s). I'm down to just having a GS412 and a GS212-8 with the Titan. Great tone for any room.

i actually traded my BB750 for the titan.

I find the Titan more addressive to low end, power (of course) and sheer bass at you.

The BB750 was a GREAT head, and good keep up with the titan in many aspects. They have a little different parts and such, but all in all, they are both great. and yes, the titan is essentially two BB's.

i would go for the BB if you don't need that much power.

to be honest, i haven't been using my Titan to full potential lately and i've been thinking about getting a BB750 to use at other gigs that i can't use my titan.
