TL606 cabs, or others like them

I am looking for some TL606 cabs. I would love to build some in the near future. The problem is, I simply don't have enough room for that kinda shiite here!!

What other existing cabs meet the criteria for these?! I know the Mesas do, but what else?! Just enough to hold me over until I can build a few of my own.

My last thread generated no input. Hopefully this one will!! I would like to try a pair of 3015s (non lf). I already have 2 3015 lfs and 2 18sound 6nd6's. I would prefer to later mix them all with an external crossover.

As for the 3015's, I would like to run them full range!! Just looking for suggestions. I have a PV BW in a Hartke 115xl now and 2 x carvin 1503's w/ 3015 lf's and 18 sound 6nd6's.

I also have an Avatar 2 x 12 and 1 x 15 with Eminence lf ceramics and a Trace Elliot 1048h (80's).

Any suggestions are helpful!!

You already have better csbs than a tl-606 could hope to be, but, they do have a certain sound with 15L's that modern cabs can't seem to cop, at least not without a studio racks worth of tricks in front of them.

The tl-606 was I believe about 3.2 cu.ft. with tuning options of 40 and 55 hz, geared to sound a certain way with the EV 15L. Sometimes, people put 15B's in them but they don't have the top of the L. Some folks say the 3015's are a good retrofit. Haven't actually heard one like that, but I don't expect it's that close, at least not when pushed. The 15L was actually more like a heavy duty guitar driver and would get pushed into non-linearity with any decently powered bass amp, which contributed to a certain sound. The 3015 seems too high performance to get that sound.

Well I would really like to make a few 1503 cabs with their own separate in and outs so I can mix and match any way I choose. I would really prefer to make 2 to 4 cabs for the 1503 non lf's. I could then add in the lf's and/ or the 6nd's and make crazy sound. Or any combination with the three different speaker types. I have an onboard crossover.

In conclusion, I would like to know if anyone has good specs for the regular 1503's by themselves. To mix a 1503 with a 1503lf and an 18 sound mid would be pretty damned sweet!! To tell you the truth, I would love to see some plans posted of just the 1503 non lf and the 1503 lf in a properly tuned cab together (taking into consideration an on board type crossover/ or fullrange).

Thanks for the thoughts guys!!

Look at singlemalt's posts in the fEARful threads. He did essentially just what you're proposing, then quickly ended up bailing on the non-LF 3015s and building more fEARfuls.

Well if I made a couple of 1503 cabs I could still make fearfuls with what I have already. Albeit I would make a headcab and 2 subs. I already have the crossover in my Fender TBP-1. I would like to firsthand see the differences between the three, ya know?! I'm not trying to diss you FEarfullites, I would simply like to see/ hear for myself. With all separate cabs for all separate speakers. My tonal needs may differ from everyone else's. It is possible.

Heh...I tried to talk singlemalt out of it to no avail, and now you. Knock yourself out! As you said, separate cabs, so [DEL]when[/DEL] if they don't mix so well, no big loss.

You could also ping 4Mal, who owns a couple of 3015 loaded 606s and a few fEArfuls, including some sub cabs. FWIW, I no longer own a fEARful cab, although I did enjoy the 12/6 when I had it. And I've built around half a dozen 606s, and gigged 'em for a couple of decades. ;)

Here's tl606 build plans if you want to DIY.

Thanks for the plans my friend!!

Why is it so crazy that anyone would want single 15 cabs with amazing drivers and no mid or tweets?!

The Barefaced Compact and Super 15s look awesome and I'll bet they sound it as well. I would love to get some, but I would like to try and make them first, which is what this thread is about.

The carvin ls1503 cabs I have are loaded with the FEarful drivers, they sound great!!.

The PV BW equipped Hartke 115 cab I have sounds great!!

I like the limitless possibilities whilst still keeping it simple. Lots of speakers/ cabs sound great. They don't have to be perfect.

I've read Greenboy's FEarful posts since the 3 way on a budget thread was conceived. Hence my 2 carvin 1503s.

I love that FEarful stuff and I applaud you all for it, but please stop pushing it like crack. It's awesome, but not the answer to everything.

And finally, it has nothing to do with what I asked. Thanks.

Apologies, I missed the fact that you already have those 1503s. I'd still recommend that you look at singlemalt's posts, if only to consider tailoring the 606 port dimensions to the 3015 non-LF if you end up building your own. Both his and Mal's 606 were built that way and sound quite nice. You might even like the LF in a 606 -- I had one like that for a while and it sounded pretty nice with an EV-loaded 606 on top.

I heard through a TB message that greenboy has a new fEARful 215 cab and from what I’ve seen it looks nice so you may want to check it out too. Cheers

Thanks for the insight, I will definitely reread those threads.

My response isn't directed necessarily at you, Passinwind, I've read nearly everything you've ever posted.

It just seems to have gotten so common that it's becoming out of hand at times with the Cult of FEarful answering every question, no matter the point, with "get a FEarful".

I'm quite sure that Greenboy did not intend to have this particular effect with his glorious revelations.

I'll get to building some TL606s!!
