To address bobby Dall once again

I think Bobby is an excellent bass player. I was not impressed when first I saw Poison at The Country Club in Reseda, California in 1985, but when an M.I. friend played their LWTCDI cassette, I changed my mind. Poison's best songs did not make it to airplay. They were well-constructed, with easy and clever lyrics, references to other bands and songs I liked, and I could hum some melody after one listen. "Let Me Go to the Show," "Blame It On You," and "#1 Bad Boy" (I'm no upstanding citizen, but I'm standing up, just the same) are three examples for my conversion.

At that time, Bobby was using an Ampeg SVT w/ 8x10 cabinets, but recorded LWTCDI with an Ampeg Port-o-Flex.

I stayed vocal through the "KISS SUCKS!" period, and I am just as vocal in my support of Poison. Poison got to where they were through hard work and a loyal and devoted fan base. Mötley Crüe's "Theatre of Pain" look was a result of Poison's influence on L.A.

Food for thought: If Poison sucks so badly, how come I can never find their T-shirts in thrift stores?

Because most chicks wore them until they fell apart,lol,....no seriously, Bobby Dall made lots of money, played to sold out arenas, and got more ass than a toilet seat, he must have done something right.

And both derived their shtick from the New York dolls who got it from Alice Cooper....
I was there then too .. Poison was never my cup of tea musically. The marketing amazed me. Mötley was more what I liked. There was a plethora of better bands viewing for attention at the time IMHO that just did not get out for various reasons and sadly that is often the story. Thanks to the hair band era... it let us see (mtv) and hear a revival in metal in general.. The Glamish stuff felt "done" to me being a NYD, Alice Cooper fan already.. it was not "new or shocking" to me not fresh either. Their popularity brought a following Era where metal (ish) music dominated everything.

Definitely a Poison fan. I loved that first Poison lp and the 2nd one. Played them to death. Saw them on that tour as well. Good, fun, 3 chord rock n roll with a lot of energy. Bobby played what was necessary. Poison was a party band from the get go. They always put on a good show at the gigs. Very entertaining. Let's also not forget the incredible amount of red hot 80s rocker chicks at their shows! You certainly didn't get that at a Metallica show back then. Just a bunch of sweaty dudes! LOL

I always liked the first poison album. They sold millions of records, sold out shows, merch yet you'd be hard pressed to find someone who says they liked this band. Well, I did and still think their first album was a kick ass RNR album.
Now, I was curious if he used as svt so I googled and all I got was this crap about him and his antics ect. There was a tb thread that was ridiculous. Talk of wootan and all this.
I look back (I'm 42) and think about what got me into music and bass. Was it insane playing? Was it cool songs? Yes, anasthesia was so bad ass but Metallica made good music. Vai was insane but hardly memorable as songs whereas satriani had good songs.
All this said, myself and no one I know (including bass players ) care about wootan, Berlin, La rue, and all the others who are insane players yet can't seen to write a cool song. Looking back, the guys that influenced me were the simplest of players. All the tech in the world doesn't make up for cool songs... Just ask Mr Big. I LOVE Billy's playing but MB is lame as hell. Roth w Billy kicked ass.
So, point is (as its dissected and trashed) is that being simple, basic or for the song us often better than the opposite. I love bass, but if I wanna hear all the crazy poopie I'll listen to guitar. To me, bass is bass. This is all just MO.
