I have just received "Devil's Slingshot" (Virgil Donati, Billy Sheehan, tony McAlpine). Another stellar cd with Billy's signature understanding of groove and music. Had I listened to Talas first, instead of AC/DC, I'd be a bass player from the beginning

I think David Bowie said it well, you may not like what they do but to criticize without it being constructive is just being rude.

I don't understand why people think Sheehan always hot dogs and is nothing but solos. All you gotta do is point them to Mr. Big's most well known song, "To Be with You," and they'll see how tasteful a player he is. He could have easily added a lot more fills and overplayed it, but his tasteful lines really contribute to the song.

I have his advanced bass techniques DVD and am always amazed at his dexterity and skills. I do notice that he doesn't do a lot of studio or touring work anymore; it's mostly solo projects, Niacin and clinics. This is true of some other heavy hitters like Stu Hamm, Victor Wooten and Jeff Berlin.

This may be by their own choice or by their reputation as "bass soloists" but regardless, there is not doubt the guys have skill.
