rock club type shows and rock concert type shows are two different animals which require two different backline approaches, first of all mi have no problems with newer smaller tuned cabs in fact i am insanely jealous because i want one of each .... however, that being said depending upon venue, ceiling height,width of stage as well as depth, if you bring the wrong bass rig to say anything outdoors with stage 40 to 60 feet wide or more ... sure if you are lucky enough that sound company brought monolithic wedges for you then you may be able to hear yourself well enough to sound as if you and your drummer have played together more than once, but if you have inadequate little hi tech club rig and all that real estate between you , your rig and your drummer then the sweet spot you will probably find is that one 90 % of bass players find themselves migrating towards , that "X" way back near drum riser and bass rig. Because of situations such as windy days out on big stages and being able to hear the wind carry your tone off into the clouds ... you better not dump all your old school ampeg stuff cause one day there may come a time when you have to actually play bigger than club gigs, and outdoor gigs , forget about it you must have the monolithic SVT stuff AND its best t have equal sized pile on each side of drum riser , unless of course you don't intend to go out to front of stage and experience the wonderful sea of humanity that awaits entertaining. Sure you may able to pull it off , migrate around the stage a lil bit BUT if you can feel that rig pumpin with kick drum through the stage and your feet guess what , you will play with authority and be in a pocket with your drummer that the crowd as well as you will not soon forget . please don't misunderstand me as the arguing for SVT guy either way doesnt matter to me sure i hate lugging stuff to club gigs but not bad enuff to compromise my instrument or my integrity as bass man
