Toes hurt like crazy after gig.

Maybe your stance pushes your toes into the front of your shoes? With pointy footwear, this could squeeze your toes together OR you're just jamming them into the front of the toe box. This is a common problem with hikers during a descent except improper lacing techniques, incorrectly sized boots, or uncut toenails are usually the culprit.

Quick question, are you possibly keeping time with that foot, but by pounding the ball of your foot on the floor, as opposed to tapping? That may
have bruised your toes.

Yes this happens to me frequently. I think it's a combination of the weight of the bass plus nervous energy manifesting and clenching. Sometime I catch myself holding my breath, too. I go back to basic relaxation and centering/meditation techniques to re-equilibrate. I've noticed that the better I play and feel about the gig, the less toe pain I have, although that's not a 100% correlation. Stay hydrated and be mindful of your stance, breath, and body position while playing, if you can.

A couple of years ago I stopped drinking milk and eating dairy. About a year ago I began experiencing severe toe and foot pain, after gigs was really bad. Long story short, diagnosed with calcium deficiency. Added some dairy to my diet and a calcium supplement and problem is gone. Took about 4 months to get my levels up though and the pain to disappear. Hopefully it is something as simple as that.
