The topic was raised on another platform and when I questioned one person who had posted several “too many knobs for me” posts in a thread that was created by someone that was happy with a new bass purchase. When I asked why he felt the need to keep posting about his preference for the number of controls on his basses when the thread had nothing to do that, he got upset!

Too Many Knobs vs. Not Enough Knobs

The topic was raised on another platform and when I questioned one person who had posted several “too many knobs for me” posts in a thread that was created by someone that was happy with a new bass purchase. When I asked why he felt the need to keep posting about his preference for the number of controls on his basses when the thread had nothing to do that, he got upset!
Merely expressing one’s opinion without being “thoughtful” to some individual people’s satisfaction is “mindless”. If you’re saying something someone disagrees with and you choose not to engage in an argument, or present an argument, it’s $hitposting to them. (Note that no one ever gets upset by similar-style posts that they agree with)
You’ve lost me and I’m honestly confused as to why you tagged me with those comments. You quoted a response by me to someone else. The person that I was responding to suggested that maybe I needed to figure out why the “too many knobs for me” thing bothers me. I simply told that person that I’d already explained why it bothers me in this thread!
EQ is useful, if you understand EQ. I see a lot of basses up for sale after people have swapped pre-amps thinking it's a knob issue. Moreso, not knowing what frequencies the knobs control is the bigger problem. For my active basses, I know which frequency ranges I like to control. There are some pre-amps I stay away from because they don't fit into the style of music that I play.
Knobs are only as effective as your understanding of what they control. If they don't control what you're trying to manage then they are as useless as 24" wheels in a skateboard... may look cool, but won't get you anywhere...

I can find at least one thing to dislike about any bass!! 
There's nothing wrong with people throwing in their reaction/opinion. "too many knobs for me" doesn't imply any judgement on the post, it's just past their limit. Does this bother you for some reason?
There is no right or wrong answer; use as many knobs as you need. I like the idea of versatility, but prefer simplicity, so the knobs have to be well laid out and useful if there are going to be lots of them. The most I have is 4 plus 2 toggle switches.

I'm a one Volume, one Tone knob kind of guy.
My Stratocaster has the one Volume, two Tone knobs thing, standard.
I hate it.
My Les Paul BFG is closer to right;
Two Volumes, one Tone, and a Kill Switch.
Still, I would be happier with less.

In the context of the examples that prompted me to post my question I do feel that it was a matter of passing judgement. One example that I provided in a previous post in this thread was related to an individual who was repetitively making the “too many knobs for me” statement in the same thread! Once was unnecessary because the thread was a NBD post. Multiple times? Yeah, it was more than a reaction/opinion. Then when you see the same person doing the same thing on other posts…..
