Too passive aggressive?

The only times I've felt uncomfortable performing a song have been when it expressed a political or cultural view opposed to mine. I've still followed through, however, like a pro.
I did once draw the line at performing at a political fundraiser for the "other" party. The cost there was tangible.

I could play on such a song ... I think I'd have a hard time singing it. That's more of a personal expression, more directly associated with oneself. I can think of songs where I could swap a line or two to get it into my wheelhouse, and perhaps then not cause discomfort to some listeners. Not uncommon for singers to do that for lots of reasons anyway.

Sinatra did that for "Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas" - line as written is " ... Until then we'll have to muddle through somehow ... " Nah, Frank don't muddle. No, instead, "Hang a shining star upon the highest bough". Pretty good substitution, imo. "Making it your own," doncha know. :)
