Tool tone/FX sticky thread ver. 1

Just got a CE-5 recently, what are the settings on JC's chorus? TIA

using his dots that mark where he keeps his settings you can infer and see that his effect level is right at noon, his rate is probably about 12:45 (set in the area that is glared), you can see the dot for the depth is at about 1/ 1:30/2, and the filter is cranked all the way up to flat.

I feel i should be complete.. this was the clearest frame i could find of the foxx settings

The most suspicious part of the video to me was the tech slipping in the (to me) oddly placed comment of "This (the BEF) is the one he's really fallen in love with." That does make it seem like an ass-kisser video.

Oh, and I forgot to mention it, but that sound is indeed massive. I'd be a bit scared to hear that in person.

it is pretty fishy how it isnt all plugged up right.. you can tell in this frame.. but i like the BEF much more than the BR2 and when i saw them live in 2010, i was wondering why i could not dial my br2 into that sound..

I honestly think the techie did say it and said (probably) in the actual interview that he usually uses the br2 but since dunlop is creating the video, and clearly it is edited and cut so it fits, that dunlop made sure to leave that part in

This came up in talks as soon as that video surfaced. Half were saying its on the board half were saying its still the BR2, and was concluded that we will clearly have to wait until a good pic/vid of Hawaii or Australia to see if the MXR has stayed on the board or not. The MXR sounds wicked for the Grudge but basically disappears in Jambi while having the ToneBender on.

This also came up in talks when vid surfaced. But you would have to assume, that when the "fun board" needs to be put in the "loop". One line (thru box) to heads would have to be unplugged to allow cord from last pedal on fun board to be plegged into it. So im guessing it went from the Foxx to the "fun board" then into the thru box. So that is why you see something unplugged.

Because of how the auto wah disappears in the mix when the ToneBender is turned on....at first i thought that unplugged cord was from the MXR and that the MXR could be the last pedal in his "clean" chain.........and the Tonbender and Foxx Wah were actually part of the dirt chain....I am still experimenting with the order of the pedals until im satisfied.

In fact i have completely ripped apart my pedalboard and going to have 2 separate ones (now that i have enough pedals) One will be strickly for doing the Tool and the other for covers and or originals.

I am still "on the fence" when it comes to the

ProCo Rat Turbo (vintage LM308)-unmodded
vs.
ProCo Rat II (LM308 installed +modded for bass)IMO it sounds better than Turbo

MXR vs. BR2 (some things BR2 sounds better)

5 vs. 6 digit serial #'s for the GT2
(i have 2 5 digits and 1 six digit and they ALL sound a little different on the same settings)....

If you look at the pencil lines on my new board....they are the dimensions of my old one (wedge). So if i were to use a bypass strip and move my GT2 thru to DD3 up on the board i can actually use my old base to the board. But i am still undecided on this...

you brought a good point up in my mind.. maybe it was easier to leave the old cables on the board (tied down) and add new ones (the fun board) so it could still be removed later, and go back to the essentials. just a theory

yep

and by the way, i envy you very much for this.. and im pretty sure the diagram where the overdriver is at the end of his regular chain is correct. (just looking at your "dirty" section..)

and i guess you are a firm believer in the japan model bf-2?

Oh yes...good eye! (eq+od should be reversed)
Now if Vegas would hurry up and hook up with his LA buddy, we can finally know how the routing goes (FOR SURE) on the stuff after the Delay.

I actually have the first run (white knob/green label) version in the mail as we speak. When Boss changed over from Japan they kept the green label for a bit and put white knobs on....i will let you know which one i like better after i a/b them

are any of you familiar with the boss ls-2? i would like to use it to blend the dirty channel with the clean so i dont have to have two amps.. but i cannt find information on whether or not you can blend the bypass signal and one of the loop signals?

Hey TMB what do you use to attach the pedals to the board? It looks a lot cleaner than velcro thats for sure, honestly I really like the way your board is set up, Nice and clean with all the wires and mess inside
