Tool tone/FX sticky thread ver. 1

Do you know which is the best clone/equivalent to Coloursound Sola Tonebender Justin uses ? I couldn't afford it as such expensive and rare nowadays, and I've seen JHS recently released that "Bender" inspired by this pedal...

I received a Brown Acid a couple months ago from a friend at MXR, he said they copied Justin's actual TB for this.
It doesn't have top jacks, but seems that's the closest you'll get.

So im in the midst of redesigning my top/layout of my pedalboard. The Diezel Dawg, MXR and PE Overdriver are out.
Patiently waiting for Dunlop to release his sig wah/fuzz/dist. The picture i have of it, on his board is over 6 months old now. My calculations for the new pedal is just over 6" wide, and will take up more room with the jacks on the side.
So kinda bummed i will have to make a whole new board, instead of just a new top as the base will be too narrow now.
Stoked im going to be able to have 3 different Rat settings to mirror the dirt difference over the last 3 albums. Will use the far right Rat for Aenima/Lateralus songs. Middle for 10,000 and my new Rat for F.I (all 3 have been modded by different companies)

Thanks for your feedback, and the 4 other owners of a Brown Acid (last page). I will certainly get one to make my opinion, but indeed seems rather cool judging by the great sounding demos on YT. Plus, just received a batch of flat patch cables, the "top jacks" arguement isn't that strong anymore...

Good stuff! I'm actually about to design a pedal board for myself and the only hold up is the fabled signature pedal. I don't even care when it gets released, I just want them to announce it so I can pre-order it.

I'm also gonna add a Preamp/DI. Anyone have experience with the Sansamps? I'm between the YYZ, VT and ParaDriver.

The YYZ will probably give you the most tonal options as far as dirty bass is concerned. So there’s that about that one....id take the YYZ all day compared to the other two. Just me.

Dude, the brown acid is amazing. Probably one of the best bass fuzzes I’ve ever had or tried. Love that damn pedal!! I think there’s still a lot of guys sleeping on that one still imo.

I'd also take the YYZ over a VT or a Paradriver... These two impart quite a bit of "Sansamp Sound" on your bass, IMO. However, whether or not that's your thing is up to you.

I think a lot of people sleep on that YYZ as well. I started exploring it a bit more out of Covid boredom over the last month or so, and it's not just a "Geddy switch." There's definitely a LOT more in there. I bought it as an impulse purchase when it came out, but found out that there are some really great sounds in there. (Pro Tip: The Tight switch is the key) Even sounds KILLER with my Pbass with flats. This is a Tool/JC thread so I'll link over to the post instead of derailing here, but I did a couple samples for the YYZ thread to show max gain, might interest some here as well. You can find them here: PBass with Flats and YYZ pedal.

5sg.

Sounds good. I'll look into it a bit more. I did see that they had a "Tool" specific setting and that piqued my interest.

Were you using the stompbox or the DI?

I know this about tech 21 too, if you’re concerned about the DI’s, don’t be. They have some of the best, most reliable DI’s in the industry. Not sure if that’s what you were thinking. But it’s what came to mind when I saw your comment...

For me it's more about the versatility. It would be nice to have the YYZ with a DI out, but on the othed hand, I do have DI outs on all of my amps that I've never used. I was just curious about what Gekko was using.

What is your "goal" for the pre-amp part of your addition?
Do you already have the grit part of your sound covered?

Tight distortion and tone shaping.

As for grit, I'm still working that out a bit. Any advice?
I just have the small YYZ (non-DI) pedal, as I've got a Qstrip at the end of my board for a DI. The DI-2112 has two separate XLR outs (one each for Deep and Drive channels), but that's a little more sophisticated than I need for my current setup.

Good stuff. I don't see myself bi-amping in the future unless something dramatic happens. :smug:

My GF said "why not?" so I responded....I'll let you guys know how it works out.:bassist:
Must have been last year / pre covid... saw a local pretty cool system of a down / tool cover band... and what I mean is the SOAD band was 3/4 of the tool one... the singer moved to guitar and the guitarist changed to bass and they got a new singer and the other bassist went off to the crowd... the new singer acted exactly like mid 90’s shirtless MJK and were pretty much 90% spot on... bassist was using a big new multi effects ( not exactly sure which... line 6 one maybe? ) and a few single pedals / whammy. Was pretty darn close and rocked out pretty hard for a cover band... if you can have fun go do it I say!!
