I don't get the rivalry that exists between a lot of local bands. If another local band does well, it helps the music scene as a whole and thus helps you. Whenever I see band drama or band feuds it cracks me up. Grow up and play some rock n roll

I don't get the rivalry that exists between a lot of local bands. If another local band does well, it helps the music scene as a whole and thus helps you. Whenever I see band drama or band feuds it cracks me up. Grow up and play some rock n roll
we dont but this band were just ********
they thought they were bigger than guns and roses
they were like total glam rejects and treated everyone like **** cos there mommy and daddys brought them all £1000 guitars and basses
Sometimes, if Im sitting at a table watching another band and I see a bassist or guitarist with an interesting looking pedalboard I'll go to the front and take a closer look at what theyre using, especially if its something that boggles my mind.
Oh, something that irritates me...
I often book bands to play shows with us, quite often in fact.
I hate that some of these bands can't ever seem to return the favor, even more so when theyre friends bands.

Hahaha. Hilarious. I'm laughing because this is what my old singer does. He now sings/plays in an Irish folk band, and tries to talk with an Irish accent between songs. So lame.
Here's a perennial 'favorite':

Old school, Jeff Beck used to play with his back facing the audience when soloing so no-one could copy his things.
Only a few things irritate me about other bands. My exposure to them is limited since I don't get out much between [my own] gigs:
1. When you invite a band to open for you, provide the backline, sit through their entire set, then they leave without even listening to one of your songs.
2. When the band mentioned in #1 plays the same covers that you do.
3. When the same band mentioned in #1 brings 14 guitars to play one set then takes 30 minutes to clear out.

Speaking as a female, I can safely say that I have never had to utter that phrase while at a gig.

This annoys me too... a lot of small time bands I've seen put on American accents when they talk on stage
One time a band that was playing before us took over an hour to set up...it was just a bassist and a drummer and after like 30 min of setting up and tuning and whatnot he broke a string and spent another half hour trying to figure out what to do. I felt kinda bad for him because I know how disappointing that had to have been, but after a while people were looking around like "why is nothing happening"? I felt really bad for our friends who came b/c they had to sit though an hour of silence.
Also, wearing shorts on stage. In most situations it makes the band look amateurish, even if they don't sound it. I think half the battle as an original band is being taken seriously as an "artist" and not just some kids playing songs. Also pants just look cooler on stage.
Bands playing forever is annoying too. Its much better to leave the audience wanting more than kind of liking your music but getting bored with it.

My only peeve is when people act like they are tough ****. Even if your band is amazing, don't be a douche about it. Being a nipplepotomus will get you nowhere.

So painfully true. We once got the penultimate spot at this multi-band event and thought it was SOOO cool. There was a good crowd so we figured we'd make loads of new fans and bla bla bla.
Short story short, things ran late for all bands, we got to play 2 hours later than planned, by which time we were basically playing to the members of the final band (who, granted, were 7 or so
) I returned the favour by staying to watch them too. Now, if I get ANY kind of say in it, I'll request a spot in the middle, nice 'n' comfy. But we usually open for everyone else

2. Think they are bad-a, and try to show it to the other bands around them (see number 3)
3. Poor sportmanship. We had to deal with a lot of this when we got 2nd place at a Battle of the Bands. We were the youngest group out of the pack, and we had to put up with a band of 40 year olds (that obviously never grew out of high school) that even threatened to slash the judges tires. While one of the bands was accepting 3rd place, the drummer from the band of mid-life crisis victims yelled out "Call me from drum lessons!". Uncalled for.
4. Trash equipment. Seriously, I really don't care how crappy it is. I played with the same bass for 5 years. When I see someone slingin' around P-basses and J-basses like they're confetti, it makes me unhappy.
5. Expect the sound guys to take care of all the work. Seriously, sometimes no phrase fits better at gigs with other bands than "Do work son!"

Stop the show? Seeing some kid getting the crap kicked out of him is the only reason I'm there at all.
