"All four were taken at or during gigs too." < please elaborate. Did those trees enjoy the show?

1.) A private party on a boat dock at Smith Mountain Lake. This was one of the worst gigs of my entire career... and the day after it was over, I gave notice I was quitting that band. (neither the scenery or the obscenely fat paycheck was enough to offset the white-knuckled anger I had to deal with weekly with those guys...) But that was one heluva view. ;)

2.) The guys I'm gigging with regularly now had hired me as a sub for their bass player... this was a wedding and reception at Trump Winery (yeah, same guy...) near Charlottesville, Va. A beautiful piece of property, and a fine venue for just such an event.

3 & 4.) My other regular band had a standing gig every January in N. Myrtle Beach, playing for this corporate weekend training retreat. We played a reception as employees arrived on Friday evening, then for a few minutes in between training sessions on Saturday, culminating on Saturday night for a concert at the House of Blues, but these two pictures were taken on Sunday morning at Cherry Grove Beach just outside the hotel they put us up in.

I miss that gig... :( January is a fine time to not be in the mountains of Southwest Virginia.

My new hanger neighbor just recently acquired a WWII P51 Mustang. He rolled it out today to take it for a short flight. The bare aluminum is so finely polished, it looks like a mirror. When he started the twelve cylinder Rolls Royce Merlin engine up, it's low throaty sound is like music to your ears. Flying a P51 is on my bucket list but I don't know him well enough to invite myself for a ride......yet? :D

EDIT: After watching him fly this thing, and with some of the abrupt maneuvers he made, I should take a barf bag with me if I ever get to fly with him. :vomit:

The Fingers girls holding our kayaks together for a pic while paddling around tiny Bath, NC (the oldest town in NC and Blackbeard the Pirate's home port).

I heard that BlackBeard tale the one time I was on Hatteras daytripping to Ocracoke. He used to plunder nearby in the Atlantic, and then his ship would duck into Pamlico Sound.

The Outer Banks of NC was a known pirate hangout. Those barrier islands made for lots of places to hide. Lots of crafty, inventive, outlaws around. Nags Head (just North of Hatteras) was named for a trick used to beach ships so they could be plundered. The outlaws would hang a lantern around the neck of a horse ("nag") and walk it back and forth on the beach. Thinking it was a lighthouse, navigators would steer ships aground where they were then boarded and plundered.

Ocracoke is simply one of the most chill places on Earth. I used to walk on to the ferry at Swan Quarter to get there (for a dollar) and hike through the village to play shows at Howard's Pub and a few other local places. Then I would find places to stay and come home when it was time to head off for the next weekend of gigs. I met my craziest ex-girlfriend there. That Summer I pretty much lived on the island with her. I would come back to the mainland on Thursday morning for that weekend of shows and head back over Sunday morning. She worked at Howard's. I would wake up at the crack of noon, head over there for a free lunch, and then take her Jeep out to the beach. I would go weeks at a time wearing shoes only when I was at a gig. Good times.....

I keep telling @slobake he needs to sell his house for a zillion dollars and move out here. Nobody would steal his bike out here.....other than to make a beer run and then bring it back. :D

@catcauphonic - that candle pic is a winner...

@two fingers - we'll have to talk OBX sometime... though I was born Greensboro, and raised in Raleigh, I used to spend a lot of time on the coast. One of my very best friends, (a brother really) had a 25-foot Grady White he kept down there. Many a Friday night we played for gas money on the wharf at Morehead, then mackerel fished all day Saturday. He dropped dead of a massive heart attack July 18th, 2015 at the age of 54. I miss that guy every day, especially the times we spent down there.

I didn't take that^ picture, but I was there. We were recording some tracks at a studio in Bristol, TN. I was in the other booth, with my bass.
