Totally amateur recordings thread

Funky track BTW

Thanks man. It's a ton-o-fun. My talents are limited though. I can play some keys in addition to bass, program drums and stuff, but melody, lyrics, vocals and such, not so much. As a result, a lot of Ideas, unfinished songs. Complete songs/tracks and arrangement for some, but still need vocals or some nice reoccurring melodies for instrumental tunes. In the process of find people for a virtual project. I'll post a couple more later.

Man, I hear you - I can churn out riffs and chord progressions and melodies like a freakin' machine, but lyrics are far beyond me, too. Mostly because I've never seriously tried, I guess, but all the lyrics I write always seem stupid and amateurish. Sigh.

I dig that groove! There’s a sub forum on the Telecaster site I follow (TDPRI) called Twanger Central where people
Post backing tracks as a thread starter and all the subsequent posters add parts to it.

That track could fill that role and set a high bar!

Thank you for the kind words. I'll have to check out Twanger Central, sounds like it could be fun.

I forgot all about that! When I get my recording rig back up, I'll dump some of my riffs out there - rather a lower bar, but hey. Havin' fun. :D

How do you guys get your soundcloud stuff to post?

Well the link worked, but I don't know why it didn't get automatically surrounded by [media] tagging to show the miniplayer in your post...

Oh I see, you posted your soundcloud profile page address. You want the song address instead (to get the miniplayer). You can use the Share button to get the link for the song, like @2many said or you can just click on the song title, go to the song page, and copy and paste the url from the web address bar. Easy. Like this:

If you're using the app, go with the Share button approach - otherwise you'll get links that try to open the app rather than go to the song on the web in a browser. Really annoying app behavior...

i think it’s fun to take a pass through the Twanger and see that someone has posted something out of the ordinary, an alternative to bluesstortion. One guy has been posting cajón-based grooves to play to; those are fun. First time I encountered @bholder ‘s giant bass woodwind action there was a “whaaat!?!?” day for me. That was cool.

:cool::smug: thanks!

The production values seem suspiciously pro level for this thread, lol. Way beyond my pay grade. Sounds Great!
Thanks!

It was done in my modest home studio with two synths and a drum machine, and recorded on a Tascam DP-01FX 8-track digital hardware recorder. It was definitely a labor of love, and it took quite a bit longer to produce than my other recordings, which is probably why it came out so well.

Kewl. (And no, we don't really have a "kicked out of thread for sounding too good" rule here haha.) :D

This one was a lot of work, but I'm very proud of the result! My Christmas version of the Parliament funk classic "Flash Light":

Reeeeeeally....a DP-01FX, you say. Funny, I am about to start playing with a DP-01(not FX) to try and get my head around it. A bandmate has it sitting unused in his basement.

So are you still using a Win XP computer to mix down to, or how do you do that part? We don’t have any XP stuff around any more so I’m pondering options.

Track sounds great; those synth bass notes are making my minivan speakers jump!

I just use the USB connection to transfer the mix to my Win 7 laptop.
