Here's a super lo-fi phone recording from practice earlier this evening... Just my BlackBerry Key2 not placed in an ideal spot for getting a balanced sound.... Vocals are buried, everything is super compressed and a bit distorted, and the band is a bit rusty, but it still gets the point across... I was playing my Danelectro Longhorn strung with LaBella White Nylon Tapewounds... Just using the neck pickup... Good old Tech21 VT Bass pedal helped with the tone...

I dig it! Phone mic compression, distortion, room sound and all! It’s “garage-er” than garage. It’s like when you jump on the community radio station and catch it on the garage and rockabilly show...but more. Cool!
Bring the vocals up and the cymbals down (IMO, of course); otherwise, leave it just as it is. That's a great, raw sound!
This was fun! I played a familiar riff using my custom "guitar" patch on my synth through a Source Audio Multiwave Distortion/Behringer TM300 stack. I'm no rapper, but I tried to do a Run-DMCish tag-team flow.

I arranged this and played upright, electric, and acoustic guitar. My friends added keyboards, drums & marimba, and EWI.
The high end is long gone, and it's picked up some nasty digital artifacts somewhere along the way, but you can get the general idea from it.

That is an exceptionally cool version of that song, which IMO has been overdone by a lot of artists and bands over the past few years. I think the recording still sounds good.
Thanks I was liberally ripping off the Chick Corea Elektrik Band, Gentle Giant, Fripp, etc. for ideas on that one. The contributions from the other guys on the recording really made it.
Hey @lunarpollen , you may already know this—no condescension intended—but I’ve gotten surprisingly good results from sticking my iPhone 6s mic-end first into a beer cozy, and experimenting with placement in the room. It still sounds like a bunch of dinks blaring away dumbly but happily, but the clarity improves (which may or may not be an improvement, but it is a parameter you can manipulate).

This is my funked-up version of that old Christmas favorite, "Up On The Housetop."
I omitted the original lyrics about the toys found in the stockings of "little Nell" and "little Will" because most of today's kids can't relate to them. I was going to replace them with modern toys, but most of those will become obsolete in a few years. Instead, I decided to add lyrics about Santa's journey, which would make the lyrics timeless; no updating needed. Also, the new lyrics are in keeping with the first verse.
