Totally amateur recordings thread

Because 'tis the season!:hyper:

Very well done but not for me today. In a mood.

Can't believe it's the first time I've seen this thread.

I've got a very basic recording setup, just a Focusrite 18i20, a few basic mics and Reaper. I've also got a band that can rarely be bothered to take the time to record so most of our recordings are either just live or, for the few we've taken a little more time on, most tracks are one or two takes and it's up to me to fix any glaring issues in post.
This is my favourite... a bit of a different take on Tom Waite's "Way Down in The Hole". At the time we didn't have a drummer so it's just me playing digital kick and snare pedals while I play bass.

That's a nice groove.

Very cool!

The funny thing is that I don't miss the cymbals or toms. It works with just the kick and snare.

As someone who has run pubs and clubs for nearly 30 years now I always dread Christmas time..... but I really like your recording..... particularly your bass tone and playing.
Thanks! I consider it one of my best bass lines.

In the interest of full disclosure, the bass is my own custom synth bass tone on my Sequential Circuits Six-Trak. I programmed it to be more bass guitar-like and less obvious synth.

Thanks FilterFunk.
Having played as the one-man-rhythm-section for a couple of years with this band we've managed to get many songs sounding good with just the two drum sounds. Some songs I change the snare to a closed hi-hats, tambourine or even cow bell to go with the kick.

We've finally gotten a drummer a few weeks ago, which for the most part I've been enjoying as it frees me up to play more interesting lines on many songs, but it's also changed the mood and groove of some songs where we have gotten used to the metronomic kick. We have one of our very rare gigs coming up next week so it'll be interesting to see how it goes.

You sir, are dead to me.......
Just kidding, whatever gets the job done and that not only sounds good, but i'd never have guessed it wasn't an actual bass.

Here's a song that I arranged for orchestration class. I may have posted it here before, but here it is. All instruments are done in Finale PrintMusic, exported as WAV and mixed in Cubase (or possibly remixed in Studio One Prime).

Orchestration class? Do tell? Online, by any chance? Very interested...
