Here is another bass line idea for a Folkstomp tune. Just a simple basic little bass line. I recorded the same bass line twice: the first one with the P pickup solo, the second with a pickup blend favoring the bridge humbucker. let me know which you prefer. Thanks!

I like the soloed P pickup better; to my ear it slots into that mix with more authority, whereas the blend sound seems more articulate and edgy but less cohesive in that mix.

I’m thinking the blend sound might work better (again, to my ear) in a context with less distorted guitar and more clean sounds...piano, horns, clean guitar or something. That P pickup’s honk holds its own more solidly with the distorted guitar.

Will there be lyrics on that at some point? Fun track!

Thanks for the input! This track was recorded by a local band several years ago. In theory, I may play these tunes live with them. I am just learning the tunes and devising bass lines for them. So, as it stands, the track is done as it is. Who knows what will happen if/when this idea pulls together and the band plays live, though. Thanks again!

I could not have said it better myself! The adjective I came up with was "heft" instead of "authority," but I like "authority" better.

For me, the toms are a bit too up front in this mix, and I find them distracting, but that's just my 2 cents. All in all, I like it!

Thanks! It's a pretty big departure from my usual upbeat stuff, so I'm glad it came together as well as it did.

We did a rough recording a few weeks ago at practice, with drums and bass mic'ed. Lots of bleed and at the time, I played my L1K through my new Terror Bass amp > 2x10 cabinet. It was really aggressive and overdriven. A little too much, so I re-recorded the bass (with my T-Bird) this weekend with the same amp, DI'ed into my DAW, with no effects added. Sent the bass tracks to my BL and he put it into the tracks linked above. He had recorded vocals and guitars separately after the original practice recording as well.

You can hear the ghosts of the mic bleed, but for rough and quick demos, they're not bad.

Written and recorded in the living room on a Tascam DP-006, background noise and all. The drums are canned, guitars, bass, and vocals are me. If the recorder can do editing and filters, I don’t know how to do it, so it’s all pretty raw. This is from 2016, I moved a few months later and haven’t tried recording anything since then.
