Totally amateur recordings thread

I want to stress: this is NOT a finished product. I will be (essentially) re-recording it, tomorrow (certainly the vocals).

It was written in 1979 and I am going back over all my old stuff, preparing for a new release.

As promised, I took the weekend and re-worked the song. It's not completely finished yet, but it's much improved:

Having some minimalist-like fun with the Mellotron and Cosmos.

Very KC-esque, could almost be an outtake from:

Last weekend, I was just messin' around with some stuff and I realized I was in unusually good (for me) voice. So, I decided to tackle some songs I've been finding challenging.

I had a rough week and didn't have as much time as I'd have liked to work on stuff, but here we are.

I used to be a really good singer, but I have had quite a few surgeries (general anesthetic) over the years and it has affected my voice.

That said, here's two with more to come:

I particularly enjoyed "Breaking The Law". Great instrumentals on both.

I always felt both of those songs was missing "that thing" that is the hallmark of Judas Priest songs; guitar instrumentals.

I'll admit, I am not a good enough guitar player to do what I wanted to do with Breakin' The Law. So, I did one of my favorite things and just added a harmony guitar part.

Thanks for listening!

I hear ya - my own lead guitar attempts are coming along, albeit slowly. Need to get serious with studying and actual practicing (not just noodling) and maybe get some lessons.

Spooky intro. Someday maybe I'll understand those weird chord progressions you use - my "harmony brain" doesn't want them to work - but they do!

(Edit: no insult meant by "weird" - the deficiency is on my side - by weird I simply mean "beyond my rather basic grasp of harmony and theory". I have books and books on jazz theory, sitting in storage unread. Sigh. Some day.)

It's weird, I can hear what your doing, chord-wise, and it makes sense to my "listening ear", but my "theory brain" doesn't understand what's going on or why it works... :) Need me some larnin' hehe...
I'm too lazy to try to figure it out, so I'll just lean on this quote (attributed to Duke Ellington; I don't know if it's verbatim): "If it sounds good, it is good."
