Add some crackle, and you'd think it was a vinyl record from the '50s - and I mean that in a good way!
My band, sycamore haze lost one of the guitar players for a few months, but we carried on as a 3 piece. I have an old 45 from the 60's-road runner by the Gnats. We emulate it here using their format of verses and chorus. For me, it is difficult to perform the bass line all the way through with out some kind of glitch. Let alone sing it too. (I am a bad vocalist) But we did a pretty good job on this two track room recording from 7-15-08. Though amateurs and recording just as reference footage, this track stands out. Straight up stuff- theres no post production, no editing, no multitrack.

The long anticipated sequel to the absolute classic fictive sci-fi western movie...
Solo bass, single track, improvisation, played on my 28.6" scale 5 string Ibanez GSRM25 Mikro Bass, tuned to A standard tuning (as in the 4 uppers strings of a 6 string bass in regular B standard tuning, plus a high F), recorded through my "amp-less" setup directly into my Zoom H4n handheld recorder, and only edited through a simple Wav editor.

Taking a departure from my usual R&B/funk...
This song is more in keeping with a song I wrote and recorded called "Christmas Isn't Over ('Til We Sing Auld Lang Syne)," which is a 1940s/1950s Bing Crosby/Dean Martin-style tune. I love fall, and I love old-fashioned Christmas songs, so I wrote this song about the season in that style. I'm no good at lavish arrangements, especially strings, so I kept it super-simple. Also, I'd much rather have someone with a true Bing Crosby-like baritone sing it, but I'm doing my best!
I call it "Autumn":

That was the first verse. You gotta try to figure what's being said in the rest of the song as I'm not going to provide that right now. You can ask for clarification of anything you can't figure out.
OK, So I do al kinds of different stuff. It's just about taking an idea and making it happen. There's a lot I could tell you about Flat People, it's origins, how it goes, who's playing on it, ect. But It would be a lot of explaining. A little here;
The song I wrote is from about 1996. What I am giving out to ya here is the studio version from the first album released in 2001. Being early on, I don't agree with eveything inside that version. And I gotta tell ya, ...my vocals... egh...
But I couldn't get anyone else to do it. So it's an example of the "road map" how the song truly goes.
But WAIT! I want you to listen to this other one first. A much later "exercise" at playing my instruments with in the song's parameters. We've got BH on drums and DW on guitar. I'm doing the rest. Not perfect, but of note... It's already laid down from multitrack, so I can't do anything about fixing it up now! As you listen to this first example of flat people, try to understand the song format in your own mind. It will reveal itself more readily in the studio version.
And then there's the studio... (home made on 4 channel machines and bumping it down) We've got a nice 12 sting acoustic player in this one.
I can't say that this is commercial, it's amatuer, but it was an accomplishment I poured over back then... Flat People...
But WAIT! I just want to give you a random version from weekly jam sessions. Literally, this was just pulled out of a hat and tossed out to you here...
Ya, it was on our song list. No guarrantee this one has no flaws, but it further gives perspective on the song. During weekly sessions, we just played em, we did not pour over perfection. stereo room recording from 2-8-08.
And as a final note to all my fans out there... I just uncovered and brought the multitrack up and on last night. MAN!' it's deep! I hardly remember how to operate it cause it's been over a year since I ran a project on it. I got it up and running, but drew a blank as far as creativity. Yet that's coming soon. More brownroom productions.

lead guitar jam practice ...just a progress update - lead practice noodling over a youtube backing track. If I do say so myself, I seem to be getting less suck-ey at it... left a bunch of rotten notes in, got some good parts in exchange....
