Working on my recording skills (trying anyways) with a new idea type of thing for my band... Not really structured or even close to finished, but then again, it's quite simple and it's more along the lines of : "hey guys, came up with this, should we work on it or trash it?"

Well that was unexpected, a new idea just popped up and I wanted to "note it down"... Less than 30 minutes of recording and Writing as I went along. After the fact, I can totally hear my love of Deftones and Biffy Clyro too

Really enjoying the tone I get from the Tech 21 Oxford that I bought recently, so here's a small tune, that I named "The Rifft", recorded using that setup:
Signal chain :
HoTone Trem (tremolo pedal, acting primarily as buffer, but also got some very subtle tremolo dialed in) -> EHX Black Finger (tube driven optical compressor, though primarily used as tube preamp, with minimal compression dialed in) -> Boss XS-1 Poly Shifter (set to a 1 octave up, to emulate an effect somewhat similar to that of an 8 string, octave course, bass) -> Boss LS-2 -> [Loop A : Tech 21 Oxford |+| Loop B : Dry blend (67:33 ratio)] -> NUX Tape Core Deluxe (emulates a Roland RE-201 Space Echo tape delay, dialed in with spring reverb, and additionally is set to deliver a reverb like subtle delay) -> Zoom Ms-70CDR (exclusively used to emulate an EQ based cab sim filter, utilizing multiple units of the dual parametric EQ model for bass) -> ART Tube MP Project Series (tube preamp) -> Zoom H4n (handheld recorder)
Playing a 28.6" scale length 5 string Ibanez GSRM25 Mikro Bass, with just the stock J bridge pickup wired directly to the output jack socket, and tuned to G#1 (51.91Hz) standard tuning (that is as in one half step bellow the upper 4 strings of a 6 string bass in regular B standard tuning, plus a high E).
Setting on the Oxford in this sound test :
Level: Unity - Mid; Ever so slightly boosted not even full 1 o'clock (12:30) - Character: same as Mid (12:30 o'clock) - Drive: a bit above 1 o'clock (1:30) - Low: noon - High: ever so slightly cut, not even full down to 11 o'clock (11:30) - Cab Sim: Off

GarageBand. It does have vocals/lyrics, just haven’t got them down on ‘tape’….soundclick added the description, not I.
10/10 band name.
One contructive observation is the low end pumps a bit hard when the bass and kick hit at the same time. If you haven't tried it the old side chain ducking the bass with the kick trick would probably dial that right in.
I want to hear the vocals.
Thanks! I really love when a song utilizes panning well. Solsbury Hill and the light stereo panning tremolo that kicks on right after the first chorus was very much a formative music moment for me. Really gives it a sense of movement that I love.

You take a send from the kick drum and send it to the bass channel. That send controls a compressor. Every time the kick hits the compressor pulls down the bass a couple db. It is just enough so that it isn't obvious, yet keeps the low frequencies from overwhelming the mix. It is an old analog technique that is very easy to do "in the box." I would bet there is a video on YouTube that would show you how to do it easily in Garage Band.Tell me more about this technique please (total Luddite when it comes to mixing)?
