In summer in LA, driving through the Sepulveda pass from the westside to the San Fernando valley, there is a point where the temperature totally changes drastically.

I used to live in Silverlake (between Hollywood and Downtown) for a few years. It seemed that the temp would increase a degree or two for every mile inland you drove from the Pacific Ocean... ie: when it was 75 at the beach in Venice or Santa Monica, it would usually be 85 downtown. That used to pi$$ me off when I'd drive to the beach to try to beat the heat. Often times the marine layer would block the sun's warm rays, AND the Pacific water is way more brisk than the Atlantic... so I'd be chilly there, and too hot at home.

For the San Fernando Valley... add 20 to the temp at the beach, always.

I take the stairs instead of the escalator of elevator whenever I can. Sometimes it is the only exercise I will get in a day.
