    Hello everyone,

I need to replace all of my Trace Elliot drivers/speakers. They are starting to buzz/crackle a bit. After years of abuse i think it's time.

I have the 4/10 + horn and the dual front ported 15" travel bottom. Both were purchased new in 1994. I am using the all tube Trace Elliot V4 head for power.

    I need to replace: 4 - 10's, 1 - 15 and the tweeter. I originally upgraded that can to the 300watt 15"
After reading some posts here, I think that I will replace them with what they we're originally fitted for. The Trace Elliot drivers.

Are there better options for the cabinets I have?

    Feedback? Opinions? Help me decide.....

I would dump the 1x15 and just go with the 4x10. If the 15 you "upgraded" to isn't ideal for the cabinet, you could have actually performed a downgrade.

+1 on dumping the 15, (plenty of info on this site as to why), and going with direct replacements/ or what iualum suggested. Or, (imo), dump the 410 and add a 2nd 15 for a sweet 2x15 rig- just be sure both 15's are identical.

When I bought "Trace Elliot" I bought the AH300SMX head with the 4-10 w/t horn. Not enough punch or drive. After I added the 15 it seemed to be the tone I was looking for. A few years later I started using the Trace Elliot all tube V4, That's my main rig. I have the SMX for back up. I would actually love to go with a 2-10 w/t horn and a 15 bottom.

Why would you think it would be downgrading the rig by adding the 15? Just wondering.

I am using my lil brothers 4 - 10 Peavey right now and it sounds great. It's that high end bass enclosure cab. I have never been a big Peavey guy, However this cab sounds pretty damn good.

Now I think I may need to visit a few stores and test drive cab enclosures with my equipment to compare apples to oranges.

    ie: Dumping the 15"

What are the pro's or con's with the 15? I thought it really fattened up the tone and helped move some serious air.

Search. The diameter of the spkr is not an indicator of how low it will go. There are many 10 loaded cabs that will go much lower than the average 15, and vice versa. 2 matched cabs will always outperform a mixed bag.

One of the great mysteries of the ages to me is why the search function is such a foreign concept :D .

I wonder if Peavey can get you the Trace speakers since Peavey owns T.E.?

So ...I ditch the 15 and add another identical 4-10... making it a 2x 4-10 w/t horn, ...I will not be looking for more head room or for it to be loud enough with my Trace Elliot V4 head?

I don't see any mention of cab ohms. I think the V4 supports 4 & 8, but not 2. If that's correct & if both 410s are 8 ohms, you're good to go. And as far as loud enough? I strongly suspect the V4 can drive them to more volume than you'll need.

The V4 only supports 4 and 8 ohm's. My cabinets are 16 ohm each putting my ohm setting at 8.

When I bought this rig I wanted to go with the 18" bottom. not the 15" Why would two 4-10 cab's perform better than the 4-10 on-top of a 15" or 18" cabinet?
