Trace Elliot SMX Compressor manual?

i dont think ive ever seen one, has someone posted pics of one? if not, could someone post some? thanks.i would most likely set it up in my amps effects loop and set it up so that i dont have super squash, but enough that my tone is sustained more and i have a more even volume responce.

i have a tape echo before the amp, i would like to put the comp in the effects loop on my Gallien Krueger amp, and i am wondering if i leave the rest of my setup like it is, will that kill my echo repeats by making them as loud as the original note* if it is in the FX loop?

*my echo is always on

Ah, OK. Two answers: First, no, a compressor won't kill your echoes, in fact it will enhance them. A noise gate (sometimes included on rack compressors as an extra feature) is what would kill your echoes, but even then the gate can be disabled. Second, unless the fx loop of your amp operates at "instrument level", you'll want to put the compressor in line in front of your amps' main input, not in the loop.

Just go: bass --> echo --> compressor --> amp main input

Or: bass --> comp --> echo --> amp input

cool, thanks, now i just need to pick a compressor.
EDIT: Bongo, please pick one that is good and i can stick in a 2 space rack or on top of my echo, it is too confusing at this time of night. (where im at at least) and i know that you are the comp god.
at this point, the comp only has to be easy to use, it needs to be good at making my bass sustain, give a slight boost, and control my horrid dynamics, and if it is rackmount, it cant be more than 2 spaces.

Click on my reviews-page link, then click on the line that says "click here for a quick answer". And in the morning, when you're all refreshed from a good night's sleep, re-read the FAQ bit about pedals vs. rack units, and let me know if there's any part of it I could make clearer- I do want that page to be actually helpful. :)

I've been wanting to pick up one of those SMX pedals for a long time, but for a while now they've been selling for a higher price than I wanted to pay. Seems like the Ebay value is going up.

I don't know . . . I think that they are DEFINITELY worth whatever they cost now. The Ashdown version (designed by the same guys?) doesn't really cut it, IMO (AND in the opinion of a lot of the guys here).

BTW, I've got THREE TE SMX Dual Compressor Pedals! And NONE of them are for sale . . .

...you'll want to put the compressor in line in front of your amps' main input, not in the loop.

Just go: bass --> echo --> compressor --> amp main input

Or: bass --> comp --> echo --> amp input

IME the 2nd option (bass --> comp --> echo --> amp input) will give a better result . . .

Good luck!

OK, so one just popped up on Ebay a couple hours ago. I know y'all are going to be bidding on it, in competition with me. :) And that's cool. But I wanted to throw a couple things out there... I'm probably going to bid up to around $150 or 160. And I'd like to make this offer: If you let me win it (assuming the bidding doesn't go higher than 160 or so) so I can use it just long enough to write a thorough review, I promise to sell it here on TB for $5 less than the price I end up paying on the auction. Of course if the bidding gets hot and shoots way over my limit, you can go crazy and bid to win.

No need to agree to it "out loud" (or at all), but please do keep my offer in mind. Thanks guys! :D
