Travel size amps (Nothing regarding Fieldy in this thread!!!)

No way!! Otherwise it would have a blood squirting button and come with a pair of high-heels.

;)

I suppose if it was designed by Bobbi Doll of Poison it would come with a lipstick dispenser and a different pair of high-heels.

:D

jazzbo, I've got a Pandora 3, as well as a Pocket Rockit from C-TECH (www.pocketrockit.com) which I recently purchased at the suggestion of rickbass1. I bought it for my daughter to practice bass with, but I love it and ended up ordering another one for myself. The Pandora is great (as it should be for $200+), but the lower priced headphone-amps (PocketRockit etc.) are excellent for travel. The PR sounds great too! Ohhhhh..... but that Pandora is soooo nice. I use RadioShack Optimus headphones on mine as well.

Just my $.02 to help confuse you some more :) Get both!

Excellent advice. The guy at GC tried to sell me on the AKGs when I called a little while ago. Thanks for the tip. They're quoting they thing at $189.99. Think I can talk them down?

Zzounds lists it, LISTS IT, mind you, for $180 on the web. And that's before you even told them you could find it someplace else for $170, (which they might very come down to). Guiotar Center came down on a Bass Driver for someone at TalkBass recently, when he told them he could get one for $150 or so, (normally, about $170).

For headphones my dad went to Circuit City & got a pair of Kenwood stereo headphones [think $60]. Has a volume knob on it so that you can adjust the signal to get rid of hiss [do this with computer speakers/mp3s]. They work well with my Ashbory plugging directly into my outpot with the 1/8-1/4 adapter [that came with it] these things do distort low E some but work well & are fairly cheap. Now if you want a pocket bass i've got somethin for you :D ;) [check profile]

I wasn't too impressed with mine at first, but it has definitely grown on me...I can't see being without it now. The best thing I did was to set up a few relatively gimmick-free patches in the user-controlled section. I mean, "Tank"?? "Jelly"?!? Sheesh!

Yeah I'm not too sure that I would be using TANK or JELLY all that much. But what's the 3rd effect, the one with the delay? That has potential.

jazzbo - Tell you what, I thought the suckatation coefficient was pretty high on the factory presets, (maybe that's really what you're referring too. I don't use anything but the "User" effects where you can play with the parameters and title them anything you want up to about 5 characters or so.

I mean, I still wouldn't take them out in public, but at 2 a.m. with the headphones on watching Jenny Jones they are enjoyable, especially delay and chorus.

So, you figured it all out already? You must have tossed the manual, (that sumbitch is like "All Your Base Are Belong to Us,".... "Alien"- "look the mohnsta, let's go quickly, hurry;" "Corn" for "KoRn;" "Rockit", some kind of Herbie Hancock action?, et al).

...Pretty cool about the user effects, how does that work?....

Select any effect and then hit the right arrow edit button. The first parameter will appear on the screen. Now, use the rocker switch to select which characteristic you want for that parameter and use the rotary dial to boost/cut the depth/rate/etc (depends on parameter and effect program, e.g., "Slap 1," "Tank," etc.).

Usually the first parameter, using the rocker switch, lets you choose overdrive, distortion, overdrive+distortion, compression, I think those are the choices. After you select one by just leaving it on the screen, use the rotary dial to dial up how much/little you want of it. When that's set, hit your right arrow edit button again and you go to the next parameter.

Another common one is amp modeling, Tube 1, Tube 2, SLD 1 (Solid State 1) SLD 2, etc. When you get to the end of the parameters, which is usually "Level," the effect name will flash. If you are happy with it, push "Write" - the button to the left of that (Cancel?) and the "Exit" to return to normal mode and use the effect you have just tweaked. The rotary dial and edit buttons are used to create your own names for effects, when they flash at the end of your editing.

And to think this all started out because you wanted to go, "Boom, thud, whomp, mi-re-do. ;)

I am the proud new owner of the Korg Pandora PX3B, as of yesterday. I'm very happy with my new toy! Thank you all.

I guess i got hear to late to voice an opinion.
Couple reasons why i would have suggested the PX3B

1. Pandora Box sounds much cooler that Bass in a Box.
2. I had a pocket rocket but i really don't know what that has to do with bass playing.
3. Feildy doesn't use one.

:D:D:D

I have been looking for a small amp to carry around without killing my back - and I did find the ultimate travel amp! The GK Microbass combo. Its about 20 lbs., with a 12" driver, and it really kicks. And it does handle a low B pretty well. This thing is tiny too. Its got a good DI on it so you can even use it at small gigs when you dont need alot of stage volume. All in all, a great little combo that sounds really big - the draw back: its $600-700.
