Traynor TC-115 Neo cabinet

I sold my bass amp a few months ago and find myself needing one again. Money's an issue right now, so I'm considering renting a bass cabinet and using my vintage Twin Reverb amplifier for a while.

Long & McQuade, the place to rent here, offers Traynor cabinets and I'm looking at the Traynor TC-115 Neo.(The right size to fit in my car, the right weight for my bad back, and a rental rate that fits my budget). I'm wondering if anybody here has used one and how it worked out.

I'd also like an opinion on using the Twin Reverb amp to drive it, It's in a head format, and I'm only talking about using the electronics....not the combo speakers. I have a Weber Z-Matcher, so I can match the amp's 4 ohm output to the 8 ohm cabinet. I've listened to the amp with a bass here at home at low volume through my guitar cabinet (68 Dual Showman box with two 15" JBL D-130F's) and it sounds decent. I know the amp's voicing isn't designed for bass, but I can live with it.

This would be for rehearsals only, not gigging, and at sane volume levels. Can anybody offer an opinion on this.....If I don't drive the amp to clipping, will a 100 watt tube amp drive the TC-115 Neo, and will either the amp or speaker be at risk?

Greetings from the North,

You should have no problem at all with the TC115 neo. The neo and standard TC115 are both great 15" cabs. I have 2 non neos that I run with a Fender SB300 and just love it. For what I do the clarity & fullness provides what I need to bounce the booty on the dance floor. For rehearsals one TC115 + your Fender will do you just fine.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I first posted this question in a Canadian-based forum, thinking Canadians dealing with L&M would more likely know about them, but got no responses. I got lucky that a couple of Canadians here on TalkBass knew about them, and cared enough to answer. It's appreciated. I'm liking this place....I need to spend more time here.

All the Traynor cabinets are fantastic. I've seen some amazing deals on TC115 Neos lately - as low as $199! There will be no problems that you will run into here, assuming you are unplugging/disabling the speakers on the combo. I can't imagine that a Twin would have a problem running a 8 ohm load. The only issue you might have is that the Twin, even with the TC115, may not have as much low end response as a bass amp would, due to the design of the tone stack or other aspects of the amp's architecture. This may put your tone at risk :) but certainly not the amp or the cabinet.

Be sure to report back with a review of the cabinet, I'm sure it will be amazing! I love my two TC112s, best cabinets I've ever owned.

I own a TC-115 neo... it is quite beefy sounding by itself for small gigs... handles power well... old-school tone... and light (39 pounds).

I'd be willing to sell it if anyone on the East Coast (Canada) is interested! ha ha

Wow, at 200.00, I'd be buying instead of doing rent-to-own at L&M. I guess I should be checking that out.

No problem with using the Twin's combo speakers.....There aren't any. It's a 1970 raw chassis that I bought on eBay, blackfaced it, bought a new head cabinet, reverb tank, cosmetics and NOS glass.

I've listened to the amp at low volume, with both of my Tele partscaster basses and my Beatle Bass plugged in, and it actually sounds pretty good through my guitar cabinet.
