That is what is in my YBA 200-2, so I figured that they would continue that trend.
Is the tonal character of the YBA 300 going to be the same/similar to the YBA 200-2?
1. I really hope this turns out to be a great amp.
2. 12 EL34s is too many tubes. I'm scratching my head at that one.
3. I hope the tranny is better designed on this one than the YBA200
4. I hope they designed the bias circuitry better this time around.

I just priced "decent JJ" version of both el34, and KT88 at tube depot...and it's actually ~$30 more expensive to buy 6 kt88 vs 12 el34 of JJ's in the same grade.

Cool avatar. Ah, the good old days of waiting in line in the predawn hours at the only Ticketron for 30 miles around. Dec or January, don't remember when they went on sale. It was very cold. Wonder if that one guy who passed out in his car ever regained consciousness. Way too cold to not be moving for 9 hours. Nice of his buddies to forget about him...somebody noticed and the police jimmied it open for the EMTs. His buddies never left the line. They were getting tickets for the Deep Purple reunion, only happens once in a lifetime. Can always find another drinking buddy.
Roger's Peavey sounded good, but his playing was very simple. Happily in the Steve Morse era concerts he made up for it. What was this thread about?
Oh yeah, amp looks cool. Add me to the list of people who realize it's a good price for such a beast, but still can't afford it. I'll probably never see one, still haven't seen a 200. Must admit the comments that the 200 was sadly lacking in clean at high volumes really makes me want to try one. Maybe there will a bunch of them cheap as folks sell them to pay for their 300s.

& FTR I don't THINK the Mesa 400+ was actually 400w (outta the 12 6L6's) was more like 300w IIRC

I'm gonna re-post some of my questions because I'm really curious about this amp!
- Do you think that with this setup of 12 EL34's that the amp will be mid scooped at lower volumes like what people reported with the yba 200?
- With the tube lockout option do you think it would offer opportunities to run the amp at lower wattages? Say, give the option to take out half the tubes to get it down to 150 watts or so? I say this knowing that sometimes these amps put out their best sound when pushed, and it would be nice to practice with this thing sounding really good while making sure that people upstairs can hear the TV at the same time!!!

I will have this head I'm glad they jumped to 300W. I had the TC810 cab a while back & I must say it kicks an Ampeg 810E to the ground in the low end. The Ampeg just has a better & more midrange voice. The Traynor was a little lacking in that dept.
Hmmm. This 300 sounds interesting. I almost bought a YBA-200 recently but went with a SS head instead.
I'm starting to GAS for a tube head, though, and the 300 looks like it'll be priced in the same ballpark as some of the used USA SVTs I've seen around locally.

I would guess that the tube lockout might be used to keep the amp running if one tube fails, and it would also be very handy to get power tube distortion at lower volumes. Even if you're able to lock out half the tubes, that would still be pretty loud (if it actually manages to produce the wattage that the tubes are capable of).
I find it DARN easy to adjust the EQ so that the YBA200 ISN'T Mid-scooped. TURN DOWN the bass, Up the mids......
Sorry, but IME I just don't find the YBA200 to BE mid scooped.. not in ANY way to be any probs whatsoever.
I Still use mine regularly & like it.
The 300w'er looks good tho.

One nice thing about using 6550's in a power section is that you can get them up to 200 watts per tube, but that's at 5% distortion, and you also need the transformers to keep up. I want to see an amp maker come up with one that runs 8 6550's at 800 watts RMS. Now that would be a beast of an amp. I think KT88's would be ok for that power rating as well.
