Tri112 + Tri115 vs. El Whappo

Thanks for the review Jake! Nice website too...

I'm in the process of clearing the half dozen or so cabs out of my basement so I can get one or two really good cabs.

Accugroove is at the top of the list since I can get them locally.

Question for you AG guys. Running two cabs (like the TRI112 + TRI115) don't you get phase cancellation on the high frequencies?

Generally I have to turn off one tweeter when I run two cabs together. If I understand correctly there is no tweeter adjustment on Accugrooves.

If you don't get phase cancellation can somene explain why?

Thanks

SuperT

I can't explain why, but I've never noticed it.
If anything, you get a bit more mids and top end.

I'm actually a little surprised at how large the Tri115 is... almost as big as the El Whappo, and also how much bigger the component stack is that a single El Whappo. From the looks of it, the 'stack' should actually put out more juice than the single El Whappo. Is that the case?

Tested these combos last night. Both sound amazing.

As expected the two 115L's were a bit BIGGER sounding than the modular Whappo (115 and 112). It would be hard to choose. The two other people listening to them were split as to which setup they liked better.

Both cut through very well and are very musical. The Two 115L's had more deep low end and the modular Whappo just had a bit less. You can notice it.

My initial thought is that I liked the two Tri115L's. However, think about it more I think that they may have a liitle too much low end (and I mean just a hair). The Tri112L is very tight and has some great low end. Just a bit tighter than the Tri115L's. And that is kind of misleading because the 115L's are tight as hell. Tough to describe. I guess the 112 just cuts a little sharper than the 115L. Again, it'll be tough to decide on which setup to get.

Just FYI I used my WT-1205, DB659, DB680, Fender TBP-1 and SVPCL.

Damn Ken Jung! LOL He was right again. The Eden sounded good through them but not great. The DB680 was nice but not NEARLY as killer as the DB659 (Ken thought this would be the case). Good ears and you definitely know what my sound is like from our discussions!

The TBP-1 is too wooly sounding. Very Bassman like. Huge warmth but not tight and defined like the Aggie DB659.

The SVPCL was pretty nice too. I am going to have to play with that one more. Although so far I am really digging the DB659. That aggie tone into the AG's is pretty awesome. Just wish it had more EQ flexibility BUT I am going to be trying out a couple Parametric EQ's like Joker did with his DB750. That could be the ultimate ticket.

Your wife and daughter must really know their bass gear with all that stuff lying around the house huh?!?!

No, a couple of the guys who are recording with me came by to check some stuff out. They brought guitar gear to test too. Lots of fun and we all jammed to some drum tracks cranking through my P.A. Man, I am surprised my neighbors weren't pissed cuz we was loud.

I kinda thought you would like the 659, too. I certainly dig it, and I find it to offer surprising flexibility from what looks at first to be a relatively spartan set of tone controls.

The Fender definitely benefits from use of the Room Balance and Vari-Q knobs. Without them, I agree that it has a very thick sound.

Tom.

I used the Room Balance and the Vari-Q but still thought it was overly thick and not as TIGHT as the DB659. And this is with the stock tubes in the DB659. As you have said the DB659 benefits greatly from a good replacement tube.

What was that online store again? I may need to order asome tubes very soon.
