Please post how the other swap goes. I've been thinking of throwing a VM5 neck on my blue AJ5 from a couple posts back as well, but I was worried about the neck heels being compatible.

OK the swap is done. Swapped necks and pickguards. Good news. The neck of the VM jazz 5 fit a little tight on the Affinity body but good to go. The pickguards fitted just fine but the part that goes against the heel of the neck was a bit short but not noticeable. Bad news. The heel of the affinity neck is a bit thicker than on VM so I got it to fit but barely and had to raise the saddles quite a bit. Once I did that it gave a very nice low action. The affinity pickguard did not fit the VM body I had to Dremel the part that goes along the neck. But I may swap it for a black pickguard anyways so we will see. After a good set up they are both good to go.

Are those big pole pickups split coil? They look like the Fender/Suhr pickups I bought from a TB'er and put on my jazz bass. The sound is awesome with my aggie OBP-3 active EQ. I like most of the neck swaps here.

I don't think so. I don't recall seeing separate wrappings if that's what a split coil j pup looks like. It's single wrap around the whole. Sounds incredible, robust.

I was thinking kill switch too. Active/passive won't do much with the EMGs. I didn't know I could do a series/parallel with two jazz pups wired through a blend. Any diagrams?
It would bypass the blend when enabled. I don't have a diagram. I would have to google it too. But I've done it before
I'm considering converting my VM Jazz to a VM P/J. In regards to replacing the pickguard what would be the best way to do this:
1) Use the existing one and create a template but with the P pickup instead? If so, how can I get the measurements where the P pickup goes top to bottom for traditional P placement?
2) Get a Fender jazz pickguard with a P route from Warmoth and a new Fender control plate cover.
3) Other options?
From what I understand, if you replace both the pickguard and cavity cover with the standard Fender parts, it'll match up but the VM control cover is slightly different shaped.

Get a pickguard from warmoth. The do a special one that has the p in traditional spacing. The pick guard is slightly larger and less angled between the two pickups. That would be your easiest and best way. After you got your pickguard just trace the hole and use a router or dremel to get that extra material out.
