Troll du jour.

Ethyl Alcohol = Ethanol

LOL. Thought you weren't arguing? :p

We covered this already. Yes, ethyl alcohol is ethanol. Yes ethanol can be a fuel. However, "ethyl," the "fuel" referenced in the Flintstones cartoon series was not alcohol, as you asserted.

Also, "Ethel," the mammoth in the cartoon, was the name of the character, not a typo referring to the fuel. The writers, artists, and producers were smarter than that. They knew what they were doing, they switched up the spelling as a play on words.

 :D

My newer GM vehicles have oil life monitors, and they don't reach 0% until about 7500 miles. I'm sure GM programs the computer based on the lowest type of Jiffy-Screw oil. Since I use Mobile1, I figure I could stretch that to 10k but I always change when the monitor says to.

"Every 3 months or 3,000 miles" is a sales slogan.

Same in my 2010 Honda. I use regular oil as that is what the manual called for and the monitor typically goes to 6,000 miles which is when I have the tires rotated - I get my oil changed at my tire shop and get both done at the same time. The car runs great with 127,000 + miles on it.

I use synthetic on my 2002 Toyota Sienna (running great when I sold it with over 215,000 miles on it) because it had an engine with a reputation for seizing up more often that most engines. Even if the risk was small, I figured using synthetic was reasonably cheap insurance.

Is there any truth to the idea that synthetic gives you better gas mileage or is that more marketing baloney? (Mmmm, baloney - H. Simpson)

If this was a bike forum, you would have to add a discussion of tire choices and chain maintenance. I use nothing but the finest vinyl tires because they last longest, and maintain the chain with a blow dryer and talcum powder. Oil? Psssssh. Oil is for salad. There's nothing but bear grease in the crankcase.
