Tronographic Rusty Box!?

Yep, I have one...Love it. I bought it mainly to serve as a preamp that fits in the gigbag for rehearsals. The amp provided at our rehearsal place sucks, so I use the Rusty into the "amp in" and bypass the amp's preamp section. Sounds deadly that way. Of course, I love the Sims, Weston tone with lots of grit and grind. I think the Rusty is capable of tones other than grind, and it doesn't color your tone in a bad way.

I've not tried it into my V4 yet, but I'm pretty sure it would be awesome. Considering the cost and overall build quality, I would consider the Rusty Box to be an incredible deal!

I have the ability to do clips direct to computer, but I'm not exactly sure that's the best way to hear it. I think it sounds better through a rig, as that is where the Rusty really shines.

I could try recording something using my Ampeg SVX sim into Garageband. That might sound alright.

So, better suited with a tube rather than solid-state amp? True?

Well, yes and no.

Yes, for me right now and the tone I am going for lately.
The tube power amp "rounds" some of the edge this pedal does so well. But if you kick in the boost, the edge comes to the front with a healthy boost in gain and volume.

& No, in that I have run this into the "amp-in" on my sunn concert bass and it sounded GOOD. I also tried it into the preamp in on the same head. It also sounded GOOD but with more coloration and "control". The boost WILL be more "edgy" in a solid state condition. Having said all that, I would be more than satisfied with either of these setups at a gig.

So I guess it depends on what you are looking for.
I would hate to write it off if you plan on using is a solidstate power amp or bass amp rig.

I hope that 'splains my findings a tad better. :D

I'm doing exactly this, but with my Colliseum 880. It's so good. Just the right amount of treble and tons upon tons of mids. I've never been this happy. It plays really well with fuzz pedals too.

I run it right after fuzz, and before delay. It's like a ghetto effects loop.

WORD! :D

Yeah, it takes other pedals real well. Fuzz inparticular.
I would never think to goose another pedal with this though.
Interesting.

Yeah, I'm digging those clips, thanks guys!

Any of you know whether the EQ on this pedal is before or after the distortion?

I'm not exactly sure how it's designed, but looking at the TS-50b schematic, the eq is after the gain pot. Here's the schematic:

I'm not clear on how the clipping/drive works on the Rusty...I guess I could email David.

That clip sounds good. I can hear the rustybox.

Those are some great clips! Would you guys mind sharing your settings? I'm still trying to dial mine in.

In/Out volume to taste.
Switch set to low

treble 11:00-12:00
Bass 12:00
Mid 1:00

This is one of those eq's where, with some amp/cabs, you can actually get more low end by turning down the bass knob (to a point). Also, the mid knob affects the other two.
which is Very "amp like" to me.

but then again, that is in my set-up. YMMV :bassist:

On mine, the switch is on hi, the volume is at 12:00, the treble and bass are at 1:00, the mids at 2:00 and the gain is at 9:00. But, I have a cranked valve boost pedal going into the Rusty Box too, so, just turn it up real loud. It's so crazy aggressive sounding through 4 15's.
