Trucks...

Zoom in on the pic and you'll see the ratchet strap at the back of the bed.

That strap, the tailgate and spray in bed liner are the only things keeping the box on the frame.

Did I mention the rotten floor board on the driver's side? The rubber floor mat is my floor board.

Neither rear door opens anymore as well.
Did you write a catchy seasonal song about this vee-hickle, by any chance...? 😁

My crusade against halogen bulbs continues. Before:

After:

Headlight and front signal bits should show up tomorrow or Monday, so I'll knock those out when they do. Also have foglamp bulbs coming, but uh, when I went to yank the halogen bulbs out today, there weren't any bulbs in the housing... and there wasn't even any sign of the wiring harness, either. It came with factory foglamps, so they should be there but maybe got yanked out already. Worst case I'll have to dig up the wiring schematic for it and redo it all, but if that is the case that'll be a way later project.
I also have 2x 6", 60W LED lights I'll be mounting to the rear and use as supplemental reversing/area lights. They'll get wired up to an upfitter switch, not tied into the normal reverse light circuit though as I don't want them on when backing up in parking lots and what not - only when it's super dark and I need to see better or want a bigger light than just the cargo lights at night time.
Also started looking for clearance lights. I might have to go to a pick and pull to get some though - most of the options I've found for new parts need an existing harness, mounts, and holes in the top of the cab which this truck doesn't have.

LED conversions are quite popular here, my only problem is they don't generate any heat so the lights can't melt snow off of them.

It's not uncommon to see plow guys out of their trucks cleaning snow off their headlights during their route.

Yeah, I occasionally run into that issue with my Tesla actually. Wipe it all off before driving, then go out and drive in snow and slush. Little bit of time after that you're starting to wonder why it's not quite as bright as you need, so you find a spot to pull over, and wipe the lights off (gotta remember to do the tail/brake lights). Thankfully, snow isn't super common here, maybe a couple weeks out of the year or so.

I know most people like 4 dr. Trucks. I believe God intended for trucks to be 2 dr. Extended cabs are not a sin however.
I'm with ya on that. It makes used shopping more difficult, too. I didn't want a full "crew cab", so anytime those would pop up in my searches they'd immediately get passed over. This one popped up and I nearly did the same, until I saw the price. I can get along with the extended cab... at least my kit (straps, rope, tarp, etc) will be inside and dry and not take up room in the bed. The only other real requirement I had was 8' bed. I could probably be OK with those ~6.5' beds. I don't know how anyone gets stuff done with the ones that are even smaller than that though.

I like the extended cab on my plow truck, although neither rear door opens anymore so getting anything in & out of the rear seat is a chore. Mostly I keep my tow strap, extra plow parts, tools and fluids back there.... it's rare that I have any passengers in the back seat.

I like the 8' box on my truck. I've dealt with a 6.5' box and I'll take the 8 footer any day.

I will say that I miss my 89 K5 Blazer for plowing driveways. When I had that truck (and my 79 Chevy short box) for plowing city style residential driveways, they were great.

Now that my plow route consists of driveways no shorter than 125', my current truck is perfect.

The fun thing about my F350, it has the PTO trans from factory, and came with the Chelsea PTO + controller in the cab. I haven't... even turned it on as I am half afraid of what could explode if I do, and I really don't have a use for it. But it's there if I ever come up with something :D

There was a red F250 diesel for sale in my area. 13K, and I didn't see any rust on it.

What year and what engine? The older 7.3 was the best diesel Ford ever had...... other than the oil pan that rotted thru on them, they were darn near bulletproof.

The sick.o (6.0) otoh, was a train wreck from the get go.

Yeah, avoiding the 6.0 and 6.4 Ford diesels were also on my "avoid at all costs" list. A 6.0 can be ok if it's been deleted and properly bulletproofed, but many are not. The 7.3 is of course legendary - that was the first diesel platform my father pop in the late 90s, in an F350. I looked at a couple but for the age and mileage, I passed on them. We replaced at least two IDMs on it, and I think the HPOP as well, but, that's going way back in memory for me so I may be wrong.

Dialed in my speedometer today. My truck originally came with 265/70R17s, but now has 275/65R18 - not really that much of a difference, but one that was throwing my speedometer off by ~2mph consistently. I'll have to do more checking on it tomorrow but a quick test drive after updating things seemed to be right on the money.

2002-2006 Toy Taco.
Had it built '06 by a local chop shop 'cuz I wanted a 4x4 manual 5 speed.
'02 frame, '04 body, '06 engine and driveline. Up to 195K and still runs great. Replaced the timing belt and all that goes with that at 150K.
Replaced a Chevy S-10, went thru two of those. Great trucks!
Before that had two Luvs - fun trucks, but being 4 cyl worked way to hard being loaded down with band gear.

Wife has a '03 'Baru Baja which she loves. The bed is a joke being so short, but carries a couple of dog crates so all good. It's at 170K runs good, timing belt replaced is only semi big thing - maintenence move. Fun to drive - kinda zippy - AWD tracks kinda weird to me. ☮️ 💚

Somehow I managed to get the speedometer in my Blazer with 44" tires within 4mph..... and I'll call that close enough for that beast.

No head gaskets on the 03 Subaru?? Those were a common failure point up until 2010 or so.

My 04 Forester needed head gaskets at 125k.
