Trucks...

When I build my house in a few years, I plan on buying a beater truck. I plan on spending less than $2000 on it. I wish my grandpa had told me that he was selling his early 80's 1500 Ram a few years ago, that thing was mint and I would have bought it in a second. He takes amazing care of his cars/trucks.

If I could figure out how to resize a pic I would have posted one of my Blazer. Not exactly a wimpy 1/2 ton anymore. 14" lift, one ton axles, 454, TH350, NP205 case and 44" Super Swampers.
The front looks stock height to me.
I love the trim. That was the CST package. I had that with my Blazer and wish I would have kept it.
Agreed. Anything built after 1990 or so (to me) has the personality of an unflushed toilet. Old = cool.

1988 Dodge Dakota. I'd trade it for any other less troublesome truck in a heartbeat, but it'd have to be the same type. Small, manual, and something that I can sling around. It's seriously a lot of fun to drive when it actually runs, except the suspension is shot so much that it bounces all over the place.
It's kind of a death trap really, but I cant afford anything else right now. Plus I love the truck.

maybe... either way I am planning on completely rebuilding the front end. As an intended daily driver, I'd rather put the time and money into the rebuild now instead of tearing it down for random repairs in the future.
I love it too... the whole late 60s to early 70s 'deluxe' trim levels are awesome. I just don't think I'm willing to find, pay for, and install the trim.

Yeah I really dig that look as well. I really liked the Black Chevy C-10 from Dazed and Confused. Not so low it looks un drivable, but not a sky jacked boulder hopper either:

My Dad bought an '89 that I absolutely fell in love with, they became my favorite Chevy body styles. 73-87's still hold a soft spot as well. Just after high school I had some money saved and after my S-10 caught fire (lol) I found this (old pic, but basically the same):

she ain't too bad.That is a 71 or 72 (haven't got all the year details down)... and my perfect stance too. I like the look of a tall 4x4 (like DRafalske's Ram)... but I live in an area with limited snow and don't have access to woods like I did growing up. My desire is for a nice riding, handling, running street truck.

I grew up a Ford guy, but got seriously stranded by a couple Ford beaters in my recent past. My gear head friends all had some flavor of Chevy so 90% of my working knowledge of mechanic work is on late 60s to early 80s SB & BB muscle cars.
I can try to change that.

Man, i really like those trucks... Especially the cummins in 6 speed... Only reason i didn't really look into them is size, i go offroading a lot and the 4 door ones are just too big and 2 door, not enough space in the back. heh.
I like trucks. I used to have a company HiLux that was just about indestructible.

Love trucks, does my xterra count, since its one of the last SUVs that shares almost everything with a truck (frontier)?
I was really close to getting frontier, but it was a little bit too long for me, I need my car to fit into tight spaces. I do regret it sometimes though...

(att 33" mud terrains BFG tiers and some dents and scratches...
now that i look at it, man i beat it up in 3 years, i need to fix it up a bit and clean it... The rig is so scratched up and dented from offroading.
Count me in on the off-roading.
I use my 05 Tacoma TRD quad-cab off-road a fair bit. It does incredibly well for being stock and fairly long. That rear locker is magic!
I'll have to get some pictures together to show.

There's a lot of cool looking steel in this thread! I'm a Ford guy myself. I am the proud second owner of a 1992 F150 XLT regular cab with a long bed, dual tanks, 5 speed manual, and the bullet-proof 4.9L straight six. It's only got 239k miles on it. I've had it since 8/5/2005 and lately I've been thinking about getting it "restored" (paint, detailing, etc.).
