Speaking of which, I thought those karaoke shows were great. It really showed how talented you were to take songs from so many different genres and adapt them to a 2 guitar-bass-drums band, and to do it as quickly as you guys said. Could have done without Robin singing, though ;)

Anyway, great rig. My days of needing or wanting a rig like that are long behind me, but that's what you call a man's bass amp!

thanks jimmy ! i remember that stern show, thats the gig where i found out i couldent sing good early in the morning :o the chorus of 'all the young dudes' was pretty weak, lol. i appreciate the compliment. johnny a

Quick note on the SVT cabs: they're not "tuned" to 80 Hz. The cabs are sealed and are technically infinite baffled. 80 Hz is just the resonant frequency of the crap speakers they use in them. Old SVT cabs do 40Hz just fine (though not as loud as your dedicated 18's) in a smaller box.



Some people even sell them as a feature and call them passive radiators. ;)

yes, you are correct. i used the wrong termonology. being sealed cabs, the saving grace is the 6db slope, smooth gradual roll off. johnny a

When we opened for Drowning Pool at the Filmore in Chicago, Both guys had a WALL of Marshals and the Ampeg Pro Cabs, and the funny thing was, you could see light coming through the back of the cabs where the speakers should have been.

i try to use as few speakers as possible. if i can get away with one 18's cab and one horn, i will. the more speakers i use, the less clear it is, but its louder. if i had my choice, id strap a 1x15 cab to the back of my head with an altec 604 8g driven by my mcintosh 275 with gold lion tubes and vintage fisher preamp. but it wouldent look very rock and roll. there is a difference between having dummy cabs and getting to choose which speakers to use or not to use depending on stage size/depth for each gig. johnny a

Speaking of monster rigs, what's up with 3 Doors Down's bare stage? I know the fire and explosions were kinda neat, but that LCD video stuff going on behind them was a bit tacky. Maybe they felt a little nervous about following a great act like Staind. :D

i dont know, they usually have a more open stage, those guys walk around alot , switch places and stuff. we have never done that.just different. i used to do all crazy stuff, running across the stage, throwing kicks, sashay across the stage lol in the 80's. johnny a

i missed the 2 pages that got deleted (darn!). must have been good stuff. someone got a violation notice i was told in a pm. i guess i shoulda read the rules, to see what will get me into trouble or not. my pm box was full today. i spent a few hours on my one day off at home answering the best i could. i listened to peoples myspace songs, looked at thier eqpt, gave advice and thank you's. everyone was cool, even the 2 who asked for tickets and i had to turn down. its been alot of fun, ill keep checkin back here for questions. sorry if i missed any. i agree with the moderator who said to report annoying posters rather than engage them. its hard to do, im a longtime internet scrapper, its the first impulse, most of the forums/boards ive been on dont have much or any moderators. when a beginner asks a question, and someone gives a rude answer, i get mad. i am a beginner on other forums (especially when it comes to astronomy!) and i am the kid asking the novice questions. im on both sides. i used to want to be like stanley or jaco. i still have the old records. i never got that good, although at one point i could solo better than most guys around, and did not sound like anyone else. im lucky to have such a good band. such individuals. no one could get fired and not have the band totally change its vibe. im lucky to be the best bassist in the universe for staind. im not technical, but i play with conviction, i got groove. lots of u guys play better than me. you may not be able to cut a track in 3 takes with a world class producer like i have, ( dudes like terry bozzio do it in one take) but you guys got great skills, ive watched some of the youtubes. im ramblin on, i think i smoked too many, thanks everybody for participating in the post. johnny a

I just saw your post, I did not know that, as for the lower wattage on the older SVT 8x10's being a myth?:hmm:. but I do know the newer SVT 4x10 hlf is ported and not sealed. I don't know if you were just referring to the 8x10's:confused:

Oh, man, Johnny, you guys are playing the Delaware State Fair this Saturday! If it was Friday or Sunday I would come see ya, as I'm out that way for a short tour, but I've got shows in central PA on Saturday. Hope you get to the Nashville or Atlanta area sometime soon ... I'd love to hear this rig in action!

And what are you guys doing playing with 3 Doors Down? You guys got wicked skills, why aren't you playing with other legends like Tool, RHCP, Deftones or Foo Fighters? Well, the likely answer (im betting) is that you are trying to help out other bands less fortunate (and talented) than yourselves ;)

I seem to recall being so distracted by Howard's bad voice that you guys sounded excellent by comparison ;)
