I tried the small rigs and blew 2 sets of 15's straight back to where they were made! After that I got a rig I can dig daddio!

^^^ Nice rig. :) I am running a GK setup with 4 cabs so I am all for the big rig. Bigger the better!

"Got a New Girl Now" is the Canadian band Honeymoon Suite. Right time frame-different band-different country lol :D

I cannot believe the people that are flaming the rig and flaming Johnny for not having donated all his money to charity instead of buying his gear. A guy that actually makes his living playing bass and has played on stages most of us will only dream about posts here in a fun thread and gets flamed for it? Sheesh! If you don't like the thread just don't participate. Seems simple enough. I truly believe that if you want to save the world go get 'em but this is the wrong forum in which to try to do that.

You know it's weird cause I called boogie on their web sight and asked why in the world would a 2 Ohm load run less power than 4? they responded letting me know that the web sight is in error. The actuall breakdown is
650 at 8
1200 at 4
and 1400 at 2 (they installed a limiter due to the fact that any higher power rating would pull more than 20 amps and blow most circuts in the average house, home or club....
Yet their sight says something like 8 or 850 at 2....
so basically I'm putting 350 wtts throu each cab at 2 ohms....
A lot of people ask me why I need that much volume, but the reality is that it has nothing to do with volume....and everything to do with speaker space.moving air...
Put it this way....if I had a transistor radio in one corner of the room at ten.....nobody would here it and if they could it would be a garbbled mess. Now if I made the whole rear wall a transistor radio then everyone would hear it even at a very low volume level....don't know if this is a good analogy or if it even makes sense but for me it's true....Bass is a very weird beast.....friggin guitar players man....100wtts and they can blow down doors!!:crying:

MOD'S COMMENT - The purpose of this thread is for people who dig these sort of rigs to post about them and discuss them. It isn't for anyone to tell other folks what is or isn't "necessary" for them to have or how to spend their own money. If you think these sort of rigs aren't something you'd dig yourself, that's absolutely cool, but rather than tell other people that they should think like you, just go and post in another thread, please.

So you confirmed with Boogie that it's an error? Well that's good news. I read in some places it wasn't...

Awesome rig man, can't wait till I have an excuse (and the money to spare) to have such an emmense wall of sound, much to Bill FM's distaste. How come you don't run the thing will all your 18's underneath and 10's above by the way?

Speaking of bill FM, I haven't seen him posting telling you off for all the phase canceling your brining upon yourself. Or has someone forewarned him of this thread and he's decided not to look cos of the heart attack he'll probably endure from seeing all those subs next to each other? :P

Troy from Mastodon does that. I believe he uses the 400+.

EDIT: He said he recorded with the BB750, but I don't see it in the rack.

I LOVE that feeling! Most people never know it for bass, just for kickdrum addicted FOH guys, but when you get a GOOD bass system for the actual bass and not the marching band drum wannabe, it'll blur your vision without being very loud.

Quick note on the SVT cabs: they're not "tuned" to 80 Hz. The cabs are sealed and are technically infinite baffled. 80 Hz is just the resonant frequency of the crap speakers they use in them. Old SVT cabs do 40Hz just fine (though not as loud as your dedicated 18's) in a smaller box.

So you guys don't think I can get that feeling from my Markbass 12" combo? ;)

Oh well, I dig the big rigs, but when I have to move equipment up stairs or around a hotel, I'm glad they make a powerful combo now ;)

All of the SVT cabs (with the exception of the discontinued "Pro" 8x10) have always been and continue to be sealed. The 'lower wattage rating for the old ones' is a myth that has very long legs, because Ampeg itself helped spread it in order to sell two cabs with an SVT as a necessity.

It's set up with 1 SVT driving the 2 SVT cabs and the Trace V8 driving the 2 Trace cabs. The V8 is for overdrive/distortion. I no longer have the V6 in the pics. I've got an Ampeg SVT-8Pro that I"m thinking about trying with the 4 Wayne Jones. It's all about the volume and the fuzz. If you guys are into monster rigs you should check out Jucifer. She plays a baritone guitar (I think?) but still cool as hell. I'm going to see them tonight

Some really nice monsters in here! Gotta love this stuff.......

Sometimes I wish I was in a big touring situation where I could have the opportunity to build a rig like this! Or even consider the option of IEMs instead.

I had gone to see Rush on Monday night and all Geddy had was some chicken roasters and his direct signal, I always liked that concept but I thought during this particular show the bass was missing something at least from my seat in the arena.

It would be fun to see 4 8x10 cabinets or similar rig powered by a few micro heads, anyone doing that on the road yet?

Great rig, Johnny A. I really appreciate the fact that you know what works, why it works, and are willing to share that information with us. I'm grateful that you take the time to discuss it with us, even if it opens you up to unnecessary criticism.

I, for one, still dream about playing stadiums with a rig big enough to do the job. Ever since I saw Jeff Ament's Wall of SWR I've wanted a big rig. Who wouldn't? If I were given the opportunity like you were to get what I wanted & to play the venues you do who know's what I'd end up with? Probably something at least that big. No judgement here!
