true giant monster rigs

Just found the thread. That rig looks soooo great!!!! I wish i can sometime play through half of that power!!!!!
And I think it's so cool johnny takes the time to post in the forum and answer questions. Some of us are still playing through small practice amps and get the chance to discuss stuff with a guy playing stadiums???!?! great! You've got all my respect.
I hope you come down to argentina soon so i get the chance to hear that rig!

Let me say, first, that's definately a "monster rig", and second, Johnny A seems like a real stand up guy. I appreciate all the sharing of info that goes on around here. Some has helped me out, while some just amuses me. In the end, it's just another chatroom, and we should all try to get along, without the jealousy and wotnot.

I posted a pic or 2 of my newest rig and got replies like:

"That's ridiculous" and "Nobody needs that much of an amp"
Waste of money. return half of it and at least it won't look so stupid: and so forth.....
I made a tongue n cheek remark about "Now all I gotta do is figure out how to pay for it and got the standard reprimand of:
Nobody needs that much gear especially someone who can't afford it! Some people buy boats and golf clubs....me?...Gear!!
I tried the small rigs and blew 2 sets of 15's straight back to where they were made! After that I got a rig I can dig daddio!
Clowns to the left and jokers to the right I say!:p

Dude, Autograph? "Got a new girl now" or am I way off? Cause if I got it right that stuff was killer, heavy and melodic!
Did a tour or 2 mysef back in the day....(80's)

Killer setup yo!!
Gotta love the over the top stuff baby!:bassist:

The reality is that there is nothing like powering up a monster and riding it thru to the end!!:hyper:
It's all Downhill from here baby!!
Woo-hoo
Just picked up a cool aluminum roller bed for it...makes rollin it around the living room a little easier LOL!!!

well gee, i have. i gave away a free 18 inch exv on this site the other day. some other dude posted on wether he should buy a bass effect pedal or a metronome, (i was disgusted, the metronme is 10x as important) i told him if he would promise not to buy a pedal, i would send him a free new drum machine. he never replied... awhile back i was in my local music store. this 17 year old kid was playing a guitar like a pro ! he did not know who i was, i asked him how long he played, complimented him. he told me he is working a job and paying it monthly, he goes in every saturday morning to visit andplay his layaway guitar. what did i do ? i went to the register and paid for the rest of the guitar, told him who i was, and handed him his fully paid receit. i thought he was going to cry, lol. and i have a new staind fan. some street musicians are excellent. you shoud see thier face when i drop a $100 bill in thier guitar case . i can tell who practices and who dont, i have given away basses, amps, strings, bags of picks,.. i used to be a poor dishwasher, 16-17 grand a year. i enjoyplaying santa clause sometimes, but please dont try to guilt me into it. i have shared. johnny a
You got yet another new fan. i just got into staind.com and am listening to believe.

its cool, no problem. i should expect some flak for showing off :smug: beware they make speakers with no magnets for dummy cabs. im not saying who has them and who doesnt. i just know they are manufactured. honestly, if i could use one fifteen, it would sound the best. point source. no phasing crap. i blame my guitar players. johnnya

ROTFL

I won't rat the guy out, but there's one "notoriously" loud guitar player with a huge rig who has every single driver disconnected except one. Just look for the one that is actually mic'ed...

Every time I mix for the band (always FOH for that group), I get comments from guitarists in the crowd who know his reputation from back in the 70's when the entire rig was actually functioning; "Man, it's got to be hard on the PA to keep up with that guitar rig!" I just smile and nod. :p

Willie, that's damn sexy as well. I don't know if I have any neighbors I hate enough to get a rig like that, but I'm sure they'd hate me after I did!:D

It's just that stuff like this reminds me of this ever-present American cultural trend...bigger and more of it. It's just excessive. It's like cars....well i drive a Hummer, well i drive a Ford giganto blah blah blah. Break down your rig and give it to some inner city high school kids that are learning electric bass or something. Or auction it and give the proceeds to something you dig....I'm sure as hell not Mother Theresa but if i had reached this level of stardom and fame i would simplify things and give back. Maybe he has. He probably has. More power to him.

not worth it

I have a fairly big rig I use sometimes nothing like that Monster though.....id love to plug into that to check it out, bet it sounds great.....

Most gigs im using 2 1 x 12s which is cool, but its a trip to have that much air pushin behind you at times....When I toured in the early 90s I was using 4 trace 4 x 10s with bright boxes pushed by 2, thousand watt power amps with a pair of ADA pre amps and assorted other gear.....loved firing up that thing the best part was that as ADA had given me the pre's they wanted me to use the power amps too which I wasnt fussy about so they gave me the front plates which I had on the front of my rig with my real power amps mounted in the back...I loved to tell guys in the clubs we were in to go ahead and turn down my rig.....just to see who could figure it out.

then why don't you do the work, and make the effort, and get yourself to the level where you can then subsidize a poor neighborhood, if that's what's important to you, instead of criticising someone else who doesn't subscribe to your ethical framework?

armchair quarterbacks are a dime a dozen. :scowl: it's easy to criticize someone who has what you don't have, but to actually earn what they have earned, that takes work. it's really not cool to denegrate someone because they have accomplished something with their lives.

let's put this in perspective - even at $1000 a cab list (which is not what those cabs cost, and definitely not what a working pro would pay (if he's an endorser, he probably didn't pay anything)) that's only $8k worth of cabs. hardly a fortune - thats' two of my custom basses, and i'm not a touring professional.

+1. I don't think anyone here appreciated that negativity.

Ya, but how many starving children in Uganda did you feed? How many innocent people did you stop from being blown up by warlords?

....oh right...this is about buying bass gear. DAMNIT!

:hiding:

It's been a really long time since I listened to Staind. Mudshovel is a badass song, I tried to learn it when I first started playing and failed miserably. Maybe I should try again :0.

Staindbass, I think that you need to allow a talkbass member to actually see this rig and feel its power up close. I will be available at the Tupelo MS show on 8/16/2008. Please feel free to leave me and my wife passes so I can do a full report for everyone here and with pics. Also, if its not to much to ask I would like to see one of your L2500s plugged in this rig to get full effect!:bassist: LOL!

Damn! I used to run a pair of Peavey 415 subs (read eight fifteen inch drivers) powered by a rack of Carver PM1200s in the early nineties, but that's awsome!

Why is it that somebodies always gotta run the "overkill" line and then ten posts later ask why their XYZ 10" combo amp won't cut it at a gig? The only people that truly oppose overkill are usually the ones who can't or don't have access to such stuff. "If I can't have it, it must be stupid". Geeze! Let go of your anger and enjoy the excess! Even if it is vicariously!

FWIW I often ended up using just one of the cabs but between a two decent preamps and new strings on a weekly basis I had a tone that I loved, although I now wonder how much high end I might have been missing out on.

thats a pretty big rig ! i used to lust after those peaveys with the 2x18 and 2x10 cabs.... 3620 i think. johnny a

Thanks! They were 3020HT's. It had 2x15, 2x10 and 2xhorns. I tried one with that rig, kind of a pyramid stack. It was okay but with the processing I was using it was too noisy/hissy, so I ended up not using it. I've since improved the basses and the processing and have gone to a "smaller" Bag End stack (2 1x18 cabs with a 4x10X cab) for larger shows.

Hope to catch you in Seattle or Vancouver this fall!

P.S. Autograph kicked ass! I practically lived and breathed "Siign in Please" for about a year!

What's funny though, is with the titan you'll be making more power with 2 of those cabs than 4. Unless you rewired them to all be 16 ohms... then that would be pretty insane!
