true giant monster rigs

Johnny, that's a nice rig for bedroom practice! ;)

Seriously, though- anyone who bags on you for not playing santa claus every once in a while is a bit ig'nant...I'm just a lowly bass player in Houston, and I too have felt the joy of giving...it's a very cool thing! It even inspires some people. I like to help out when I can, and when I can afford it. But don't let people guilt you into anything, it just results in hard feelings all the way around. Do what's in your heart, and you won't go wrong.

As far as the time delay thing, it'll be more noticeable in the bass range anyway- just look at how long the waves are! Takes a while for them to go full cycle, and if you're 35 ft out, with nearby sources (monitors, etc.), I can imagine it's like playing bass with lysdexia...

Anyway, very cool rig, and you're a stand-up guy for helping other musician's dreams along. Good for you, man!

Actually they're real...at the KISS/Aerosmith concert in Cincy a few years ago I was able to check out Gene's setup and it's definitely real 8x10's. Not all of them are used, but real nonetheless.

its cool, no problem. i should expect some flak for showing off :smug: beware they make speakers with no magnets for dummy cabs. im not saying who has them and who doesnt. i just know they are manufactured. honestly, if i could use one fifteen, it would sound the best. point source. no phasing crap. i blame my guitar players. johnnya

You don't have to defend yourself or explain anything to the few haters. You are one of the lucky few who made a career of playing bass; you have earned the right to have the rig of your choice. Those are great stories, though. The feeling of giving to those less fortunate probably rivals the feeling of being onstage in front of thousands.

If I was playing with a major act, I would most certainly have a similar rig. I mean, why not if you have the cash? I am just a "weekend warrior" and I have spent a small fortune on my gear in the quest for tone. If I had REAL money...:)

Anyway, thanks for sharing with us on TB. I saw you guys a couple years ago in Fayetteville AR at the track center. I sat at the very back and I thought my head was going to explode from the sheer volume. I must have been exactly where the PA was focused! Oh yeah, I also was in a band that covered Mudshovel back in 2000-2001 :)

im a nobody too. no one cares. im jealous of some of the beautifull instruments i see here. we are talking art. but i would never post and say "my $600 bass sounds just as good" . i ve been on forums/chatrooms/ ect for years. i knew what to expect. its all good. johnny a

Yea, I kinda remember the Jams I/II. I was there with some serious intoxicants.

IIRC, they also had some seriously bada$$ P.A. towers too.

To you youngsters out there, we're talkin' entire speedways here, not just stadiums.

the rigs of doom are great, and the mini doom rigs too. this is the thread to post only the true giants rarely seen. this is my frankenstein creation, the faces on other pro bassists when they check out my rig is worth the 16,000$ price tag.,lol. you might have sold more records than my band, but u dont have a badder bass rig, havent seen it yet. im sure there is one somewhere... and i have two complete rigs, one for the usa, and one for overseas. steve d, bigwig at ampeg, always comes out to see it when we play st louis. and i ask if he has seen a badder rig. the answer is still no. there are for 18 inch evx subs, run full range. they are suprisingly clear up to about 900 hz. the jbl horns are crossed 6db slope at 1000hz with mundorf capacitors from germany. the 8x10 are the older svt pro cabs, they dont make em anymore. the handle 1500w rms, and the cabinet is the same svt size, only about 6 inches deeper. it adds a few cubic feet to the cab. honestly the older svt cabs have better tone, the cones are lighter, and they are clearer. fortunatly the horns make up for that. the 18" cabs were custom made for me by ampeg. check out all the pimpy chrome logos. i requested those. i can hear the people getting ready to post 'overkill',lol. unless somtimes you sing at the mic up to 35 feet from your amp on a headlining gig, (yeah, i have to feel the bass to sing the right note) and you are battling four double stacks , and a double stack from two guitarpayers with thier chainsaw rigs, you kinda respectfully are not in the league to comment,lmao. i refuse to put my instrument thru a sidefill that does not sound as good as my rig, period. heres a few pics and maybe a little more description. i hesitated to post this rig. i looked at all your rigs of doom and they are wonderful, and hard earned. i would have killed to have one of those 15 years ago. i never even thought id even be able to afford an svt, i just got lucky. check it out. ;) johnny a. staind.

its not really a bass rig. its a sound reproduction system. gwen stephani cd and a plastic portable cd player plugged in my rig will knock your socks off. i i could dj parties !:D

No I don't think so, the speakers without mic's in front
probably continue to produce sound.
Which might be handy if as in the case of Mr Stained, he probably has
a bit more than fifteen feet between the pa cabs facing at the audience
either side of the stage at most gigs.

Maybe not watts but when you've got 24 or more 12" speakers and all that overdriven midrange, I doubt you'll be going home saying "man, I wish Lemmy would have turned up just a bit more so I could hear him". :confused:

Yup, it's just like cars. :rollno:

You gotta realize that this is their profession. They work to acquire this stuff to present a show and entertain people. True they make more money than the average blue collar working man but I'd be willing to say that if some of the larger rock bands gave up all their gear and started playing small, romantic sets, they'd hardly be able to pay anyone's bills.
