Whaaa? I have only been a member since February but I would strongly disagree with that contention. The overwhelming majority of posts I have seen having to do with less expensive basses are repectful and appreciative. Lots of love out there for brands such as SX and Squire on the basses forum.

I just played my relatively inexpensive MIM Fender Jazz for the past hour. It plays great. Nice tone. Having said that, it doesn't have the playability of a Lakland or the tone of a Sadowsky w/ VTC. I do think you get what you pay for. It's really a question of whether you value the differences enough to shell out the extra dough. If you don't, that's cool. If you do.... could I borrow your bass next Friday?

Not intended to be a "true giant rig" and I thank God it's not! It's too much as it is, and leading me to downsize. Just wanted to show that I'm happy to see that there's someone else out there who isn't afraid to take a 737 out of the studio.

I think you missed the point of his picture, he was showing his 737 in use with a "road rig".

The days of "you get what you pay for" in basses are long gone. I have played many low priced basses that totally kick. I've got like $450 in my current main bass. I really don't see the need to spend a lot of cash on a bass anymore. Some people love the attention to detail and the ornate woods and the gold plating and all that, but I couldn't care less. I would like to get an AmStd Precision, though. Gotta pay down a few credit cards first, though.

No I realize this, good tone can be had under 1000$, hence why I believe my Ibanez BTB is not inferior to ANYTHING. I just thought a musician that big would be playing things way more expenive basses. You totally get what you pay for. With basses and guitars it starts with the wood. That's the first area that gets cut for costs. That's not to say that you can't have a usable instrument that gets the job done that's made with cheap wood, but if you want something that has better resonance, better weight, better electronics and hardware right off the bat- not to mention "prestige," you're going to pay for it.

There is a "diminishing returns" thing with the money spent. That first $1000 is where you see the most difference- and it starts going down from there. While YOU may not see the advantages of a 2 or 3 thousand dollar instrument, there are plenty that do. And it's not just about what you *NEED* to get the job done- otherwise you'd be playing a broomstick on a washtub. It's all in what is important to you, the player- and not what someone on an intArweb forum thinks.

Very well said and I couldn't agree more, although I've been down this road on TB more times then I care to remember. That being said the point that we have so many great choices even at the lower price points is a point well taken and a blessing for us as bass players.

Now back to the Original topic, I am suprised at how few "Monsters" have actually popped up in this thread. I think it's still pretty amazing that Ampeg seems to rule this space so many of the big acts are still using multiple 8x10s and 2x15 fridge boxes. Many of us live in this small world of light and loud, carrying our own stuff. In the big touring world with Roadies and crews these needs really aren't that important.

A couple of months ago I got some speakers reconed- I had my 2x15 and my 4x10 out in the garage, fired up my amp and made sure they were all right. I had the idea (but not the energy) to get my other cab out of the basement and take a pic.

Nothin' says lovin' like 900w into 3x15s and 5x10s...

True, but you do still see plenty of SVT's in local scenes as well. Won't find many 50 year old convention bassists using them, but there are still many bassists for which any other amp just won't do and they're willing to make the sacrifice.

well gee, i have. i gave away a free 18 inch exv on this site the other day. some other dude posted on wether he should buy a bass effect pedal or a metronome, (i was disgusted, the metronme is 10x as important) i told him if he would promise not to buy a pedal, i would send him a free new drum machine. he never replied... awhile back i was in my local music store. this 17 year old kid was playing a guitar like a pro ! he did not know who i was, i asked him how long he played, complimented him. he told me he is working a job and paying it monthly, he goes in every saturday morning to visit andplay his layaway guitar. what did i do ? i went to the register and paid for the rest of the guitar, told him who i was, and handed him his fully paid receit. i thought he was going to cry,lol. and i have a new staind fan. some street musicians are excellent. you shoud see thier face when i drop a $100 bill in thier guitar case . i can tell who practices and who dont, i have given away basses, amps, strings, bags of picks,.. i used to be a poor dishwasher, 16-17 grand a year. i enjoyplaying santa clause sometimes, but please dont try to guilt me into it. i have shared. johnny a

the rigs of doom are great, and the mini doom rigs too. this is the thread to post only the true giants rarely seen. this is my frankenstein creation, the faces on other pro bassists when they check out my rig is worth the 16,000$ price tag.,lol. you might have sold more records than my band, but u dont have a badder bass rig, havent seen it yet. im sure there is one somewhere... and i have two complete rigs, one for the usa, and one for overseas. steve d, bigwig at ampeg, always comes out to see it when we play st louis. and i ask if he has seen a badder rig. the answer is still no. there are for 18 inch evx subs, run full range. they are suprisingly clear up to about 900 hz. the jbl horns are crossed 6db slope at 1000hz with mundorf capacitors from germany. the 8x10 are the older svt pro cabs, they dont make em anymore. the handle 1500w rms, and the cabinet is the same svt size, only about 6 inches deeper. it adds a few cubic feet to the cab. honestly the older svt cabs have better tone, the cones are lighter, and they are clearer. fortunatly the horns make up for that. the 18" cabs were custom made for me by ampeg. check out all the pimpy chrome logos. i requested those. i can hear the people getting ready to post 'overkill',lol. unless somtimes you sing at the mic up to 35 feet from your amp on a headlining gig, (yeah, i have to feel the bass to sing the right note) and you are battling four double stacks , and a double stack from two guitarpayers with thier chainsaw rigs, you kinda respectfully are not in the league to comment,lmao. i refuse to put my instrument thru a sidefill that does not sound as good as my rig, period. heres a few pics and maybe a little more description. i hesitated to post this rig. i looked at all your rigs of doom and they are wonderful, and hard earned. i would have killed to have one of those 15 years ago. i never even thought id even be able to afford an svt, i just got lucky. check it out. johnny a. staind.

Not as monstrous as other rigs, but I think Dirk Lance's rig deserves a place here. In the only decent picture I have found you can see part of his rig, but I have a diagram too.
