Trying the Markbass Grooves and Ultimate

Hello guys,

I have recently put the new Markbass strings to my main basses. I want to comment with you my impressions.

Markbass Grooves. I think they are the cheapest of all Markbass strings. I put them on my Yamaha BB735, my main bass. The strings are 45-130. I have to say that they are my favourite strings now. I have been using Dunlop Super Bright Nickels, Dunlop Nickels, D'addario XLs and DR Pure Blues. The Markbass have more tension than the Dunlops, very similar feel to the D'addarios, but the Super brights are softer. Soundwise are very even. I really enjoy the 5th string, with much more definition than the rest. I don't comment much about the DRs because I didn't like them.

Markbass Ultimate. I put them on my Fender Classic 60s Jazz bass (45-105). When I was putting them on, the 4th string broke. I had never broken a string in my life. I always maintain my basses and I can do some minor reparations. (I'm not a luthier, but I know what I do, something I had to explain to the owner of the store). Anyway, the store gave me another 4th string so I could try them. These strings are much softer than the Grooves. They feel similar to the Super brights, but with more tension. Soundwise, they are very similar to the Grooves, not as bright as the Super brights, but a little brighter than the XLs. They are really really good, but a little bit expensive IMO. I paid the same amount for the Ultimate 45-105 and the Grooves 45-130.

As a conclussion, I'd say that Markbass strings are really really good. The Ultimates are a little bit expensive IMO, but they do feel a little bit better than the Grooves. However, they sound pretty similar. I will keep on playing the Grooves.

Little late in finding this post but I put the 'Ultimates' on my Fender Precision Ultra; great feel, tension and tone.
Been on my Bass 1 yr and still Sound, Intonate and stay Intune Great.

If I go by time used; the tad extra per month makes the Ultimates a solid value over most lesser priced strings I have tried in the past and if the Grooves have equal sound their even a better value

Played grooves on a PB for a month now, like them a lot.
Sound similar to my go-to SB66 Nickels. Maybe a bit more sustain and brightness.

Very Nice. Can't decide if I'll switch back to the Roto's when these are done, yet.

Happy with the price/performance so far. If youre a rounds player check them out :)
