Define metal.I like Rage and some Primus.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Rush are metal? Incubus? I always thought of them as your standard 90s band. And Zeppelin plays rock and roll and stolen...I mean blues. Their own blues.
I realize the genre is complex and has different categories. Do Rush and Incubus fall into any of the? I'll admit I haven't heard any Incubus since I was in high school but I'm fairly familiar with Rush. Are they considered a metal band?Define metal.

Tons of standards have already been posted in this thread, so I'm gonna toss something out from left field:
Violins, choirs, latin piano passages, spastic compositions, cool bass grooves, and a groovy woman on lead vocals.
If you dislike distortion, metal probably isn't for you, honestly. Distorted guitars (and usually bass as well) are kinda key to the sound.I like a lot of world and Latin music. I never much cared for metal and was looking for suggestions for what I might like based on what I know I like and dislike. I dislike too much distortion and guitar solos. Seems that rules out a lot.
As it turns out I'm really not a fan of anything suggested so far. Guess it's not for me. I appreciate everyone's input.
Lol, no, none of those are metal.I like Rage and some Primus.

They have a couple of live albums that I think are good introductions, covering most of their material.@Sartori looks like Herrick's homework assignment for tomorrow shall be to check out more stuff from Primordial.

Melechesh's vocals might not be for you, but they've got some cool grooves:
Cheesy videos notwithstanding, Primoridal's evolution from a raw black metal band in their early days to... whatever they are now, is interesting. Really dig the last couple albums:
We meet all of your criteria.
