Hey gang, Got a last-minute call to fill in for a local folk band I started working with last year. Second show I've played with, and man, was it fun. Last night, we played a show for two fans of the band who were celebrating their tenth wedding anniversary together. Exciting! It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood. Setting up. Tyson (gtr/vox) and Nichole (fiddle) on the left. Leo, our pedal steel player, messing around with my bass. Isaac (perc./vox) on the right. Leo having a great time messing around on the four banger. We had an enjoyable audience. They really liked our material. Unfortunately, no pictures, but we had plenty of dancing going on towards the end Merch! Soooo much great food! Had to decline the free beer, sadly. Someone misplaced the DANGER sign. Whoops. Personnel (L-R): Leo -- Pedal steel guitar Nichole -- Fiddle Miguel -- Electric bass Isaac -- Vocals/percussion Tyson (BL) -- Guitar/Vocals Thanks for checking it out.
Nice! I love backyard parties like that. Fun looking group. Fun looking band. Did you do a tit for tat and mess around with Leo's steel?
No. We were hired for $150 a piece for 3 hours of our time. Half of the band lives two hours out of town, so beer and barbecue pay isn't a thing with them.
Oh wow! Nice score then. My new start up has been invited to something similar. We are in negotiations but I don't think we can get near that much per man. We are all local though, so we may do it anyway just to get our name out there a little bit.
Some of my fondest memories are of private party gigs. Seems like they are almost always a good time. This looked to be no exception!
Yep. Those and “parlor” or small private concerts are great. Beats the average bar gig by a mile IMO. (Unless you’re @BassCliff. His bar gigs always look like a blast to play. ) @twinjet - Glad that went well. Decent enough pay, food looks good, and sounds like it was a fun job. Hope it’s the first of many for you.
Had a similar backyard barbeque gig all the way over here in Virginia last night @twinjet... nice gig report. We just had a two hour drive, $100 a-piece, but also had a ton of fun, and an awesome dinner. (and your fiddler is prettier than ours too. )
You and your band look like you have a great deal of fun playing together. That is worth a lot! Glad to see you're playing and appear to be having a great time. Hope you get to play many more decent paying (outdoor) gigs this summer.
