I really like the look of LEDs, and they are really simple to do as long as you have a way to get the power to them....it just makes the project more complicated, which is not really what I want to do at this point.

I know what you are saying about which plane it should lie in. Maybe the trussrod is twisted too? Nah, that would require a 5 axis cnc to cut the slot. I would lean toward slanting it halfway between the angles of the neck.
...or I could go without a trussrod. The carbon fiber over the wood is most likely stiffer than even using two carbon rods. The CF is located on the outside which is the most advantageous structurally.
Isn't the relief very small? I just read it is around .02". If you have a very stiff neck, you likely will have between 0 and .05" relief, which is not much off. Relief is a compromise anyway, right? I really would like to avoid a trussrod on my first build....you know, it being a twisted neck and all! I can calculate bending moments to make sure it will be stiff enough.
I do take rests when my muscles hurt. I can feel the fatigue. The wrist pain is only when I am playing octaves for the most part. It feels like tendonitis. You make good points. I have not been playing my bass as much recently as I was a few months ago....partly due to the pain, and partly because of being busy with other interests.

I'd use something like 95631A050 (these are great) from mcmaster.com in the wood of the neck and then bolt all the way down on the ball with the M3 bolt. I think if you minimize the height of it all, you wont need to secure the top also. There should be minimal flexing of the bolt since the lever arm is so small (half the width of the ball). Mind you, I haven't tried it.....
