Oh man, Mingus had a couple albums in 1977 w. George Mraz and Eddie Gomez and they are featured on a tune w. the changes to "Idaho" but I forget the album's name. Big ensemble w. 2 of every instrument....

I believe Mingus had Ron Carter play on Mingus' album "Three or Four Shades of Blue" where they both played pizz on the last track.

Yes, but Mraz is on that album and the story is that he had a melody arco on one of Charlies tunes and Mingus kept telling him he was playing it wrong, but he liked what Mraz was doing better than he wrote it... or something to that effect. I will look it up tomorrow...

To update Ken Dryden's review, Fresh Sound released the album on a CD in 2007, paired with another brotherly Metrojazz LP, "Keepin' up with the Joneses" [Hank, Thad and Elvin, plus non-Bro bassist Eddie ... hence the title of Thad's tune "Three and One," apparently recorded for the first time at this session]:

Altough I'm speaking about electric basses, I recently saw a John Lennon concert with two bassists, one playing a '51 Precision/tele-bass kind of model, the other one a jazz. Was very weird stuff going on. Didn't see the point.

Technically, the Cure is a two-bass band whenever Robert Smith plays the Fender Bass VI.
Also, another two-bass song that comes in mind is Aerosmith's "Back In The Saddle" where Joe Perry plays the lead guitar part (once again) on a Bass VI.

I'm playing bass in the ensemble sections with the big band on that Superbass video . . . the project was a very nice experience, to say the least.

Here's the encore that we did at the end of the night: Ray's arrangement of "Two for the Blues."

Just last week with the WDR Big Band, we did a project featuring Gerald Clayton on piano, his dad John Clayton arranging, conducting and both John and I playing bass—also a great project.

check out "SMV" live album called "Thunder" its Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, and Victor Wootin. Also the band "God Speed You! Black Emporer" from time to time has two bassists, but hell, theyve had 6 drummers before too

Jesus, I thought I was the only one around here that had the Mitchell's vinyl. I worked with Blue Mitchell for a minute and he had some funny stories about that session.
Props to our John Goldsby, BTW. Good to have a sane person on board.
