Two new, identical Subway 1x15 cabs sound different

Wouldn't flipping the speakers around (top one to bottom, bottom to top) help demonstrate the difference?
If the problem stays in the same position, then it could be his hearing.
I've now played through multiple copies of that cabinet in rehearsal backlines (sometimes using two 15" cabinets in a stack because the rehearsal space was gun shy about setting volumes higher than 3) and they have been quite predictable. It's a unique sounding cabinet.

why?

I mean really why ... pretty much everything on talk bass is a guess or an opinion or a preference
Because he’s asking for help and I would like to really help him rather than mislead him.

We could do this via PM, but others here would miss out on some troubleshooting information and methods that might be useful to them down the road.

Original drivers? Some guys buy stuff, use it or replace parts and return it. And some stores (including guitar center) sell returns as open boxes, and sometimes as new.
Confirmed that the drivers and wiring are correct.

Can you post a pic?? I am very curious to see blue 15 Subways. All I ever see is black. View attachment 4447642
I see you also use the foam kitchen drawer pad to keep the amp from flying off the cab. good idea ;)

The room is pretty dead with a fair amount of room and the cabs were about in the middle, but I’ll experiment with this more tomorrow. Thanks!

I kind of live in the middle of nowhere and had them shipped. I wish that was an option for sure.

I used two identical speaker cables when they were both hooked up at the same time and used the same cable when I was ABing them.

Of course!

Thanks, I’ll try all of this tomorrow - going to try to use my zoom Q8 to capture some audio and I can send you a private link. I’ll see how that goes.

And you’re the best! I’ll pm you tomorrow.

I know, right!?! A big part of why I bought this rig was the support on this forum by both loyal customers and amazing service.
That there is a damn awesome looking rig.. Now I want one. ;)

In the Amps Section guessing can cause very expensive and sad results to those asking for help.

Care should be given when giving advice or help instead of just seeing oneself post online.

Hey, everyone - I took videos with my Zoom Q8 on the floor about 6 feet in front of the two cabs, side-by-side, playing the same two bass lines with the tweeter on Normal, off and full - then I switched the speaker cable from one cab to the other and did the same thing - then I taped markers on the floor, swapped cab locations and did the same thing - and then I played some Tom Sawyer through it and went through the process again.

It's about 45 minutes of video. I'm going to edit it all together in a way that makes sense and then, if I relisten and and I'm not insane, I'll upload a private video and send it to @agedhorse to get his perspective and then I'll post an update.

The last thing I want is for people to jump to conclusions about anything - this could very well have been me and my ears and cab location, etc. And, to be honest, I'm beginning to think it is just me, speaker proximity, ear bias and simply being gun-shy about spending this much money on stuff and being overly critical. I'm not afraid to admit it if that is truly the case and I'm happy to have my temporary panic and embarrassment be a teaching moment for anyone else who might be experiencing something similar with their ears tricking their brains and vise-versa.

Anyhoo ... thanks for all the comments! Once I get everything together, I'll post an update!

This is a remarkably sane and clear post.
@Addison did you come to any conclusions?

Yes, there is a difference between the two in the recording I did, but it’s really small. @agedhorse can hear it a little on the recordings as well and he is being kind enough to work with me on it - I’ve been taking some pics of some things to verify everything at least looks as it should and I’m going to try to get more audio outside if weather allows, because that will eliminate any potential room gremlins that are still in question.

I want to be clear that the differences are incredibly minor and this was even more clear to me after I recorded everything. With that said, I am still hearing a something, but I’m confident it’ll get taken care of one way or another.

EDIT: Also, thank you for the kind words, @kesslari !!!

Hello!

I searched for this and didn’t find anything …

I just bought two brand-new Bronco Baby Blue Subway 1x15 cabs and a TT800 head. I immediately hooked up both cabs and started playing around - I’ll join in the thousands of others with the accolades, because the rig sounds amazing and I feel like I barely scratched the surface so far.

My question comes because I switched to 8 ohm mode, set the tweeter attenuators to “Normal” on both cabs and A/B’d them and they sound quite a bit different.

They should sound the same, if there's any consistency in their manufacture.

I tried a 1X15 cab, exactly once. Hated it.

It's not the size of the speaker, of course, but the product of a whole lot of other factors that probably affected your sonic experience. I'm currently running fEARless F115 and f112 cabinets (15" LF and 12" LF Eminence Kappalite drivers) that sound identical to one another, but they sound quite a bit different from some other 15" and 12" cabinets. I'm told that the fEARless F110 (10" LF driver) sounds the same, but quieter. Don't have one to confirm.

I'm way over lifting an 810 SVT fridge these days; the F115 weighs in at 43 lbs and sounds better (to my ears). My girlfriend can one-hand it into a venue (provided my wife doesn't find out).

All measurements need to be made anechoicly or at lease outdoors. The differences between any two sound sources due to an indoor environment are often larger than any differences being measured.

Software or measurement devices without the proper test conditions just provides lots more bad data and false sense of security.

I deal with this sort of thing regularly.

I'm not sure how security plays into this. For the OP it could tell them whether there is a significant response difference or not. What's significant? 2 or 3 db? These tools are used regularly for tuning audio systems in cars, homes, studios, etc. They provide useful data if used in a sensible way and using a basic scientific testing approach. You can easily compare response curves to see the difference. Of course having the knowledge to determine what is wrong or needs to be changed is another thing. Its like getting a code on your OBD2 reader and having the knowledge to know what part to change. Diagnosing and dealing with small differences (can you hear these?) might well require higher end skills. I don't see the downside if the user is interested in this work.
