I'm just having a play with the QC and Genome. I love the power amp sim, and I'm enjoying the preamps more than I expected, although I'm having issues with the cabinets.

I'm not a fan of the DynIR one, so I opted for IRs. It makes it a little fairer, too. I'm using the Science 2x15 IRs, set up the same with dual IRs on QC as in Genome but getting some strange artifacts via Genome:

I've made sure there's nothing else on the channel strip in Logic, tried every combo for phase and other controls in genome with no luck. Any thoughts what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks for sending this through. That is super strange indeed! Can you send a screenshot of your GENOME Session, the Logic mixer and confirm what interface you are using please? Thanks so much!

Sure here's the logic track and Genome with the IRs open:

It's a Scarlett 2i2 interface.

The patch I'm using takes the input on the QC, routes through the FX loops with some drives/preamps and then to row 3 and 4. 3 has my QC capture an IR block and then to Out 1 XLR, 4 is empty and goes to Out 2 XLR. I then alternate between muting the outputs via scenes.

Everything sounds fine until the IR block in Genome. I'll try some more IRs when I get a mo.

These are the IRs - Impulse Responses

Thanks for this. In terms of the QC FX loop, what do you have in this out of interest? Any delays?

In terms of the IR loader, if you head to the FX Options Submenu, accessible from the FX Options Submenu Icon in the top right of the GUI, can you confirm what Align mode is selected? Options lifted below from our user guide for reference...
  • ALIGN MODE: The following controls are available:
    • NONE: The IR file is processed without changes
    • MIN PHASE: The IR files are automatically configured to be in phase with one another
    • MIN LATENCY: The IR files are placed to generate the minimum possible latency

Ahh yeah forgot about that, it defaulted to min phase and I think I tried min latency but not sure I tried the none option come to think of it.

No delays etc. Got Black Math > Halberd > Dagger in FX loop 1 (all drives) and the Model FeT in FX loop 2.

Thanks for getting back to me and confirming - if you could try the none option and let me know if this helps, that would be ace!

Hey, so I set the IR offset to none and no change. I still hear the artefacts when I set the blend to be fully A or B.

I've loaded up some Shift Line IRs, and they seem fine, so I think it's down to the IRs, unfortunately.

Thanks for getting back to us. I think the QC may be truncating the IRs down quite a bit for latency purposes so that may be why there is a differential. You could try lowering the IR length in a DAW then reimporting? Let me know if this helps and if you need anything else, I am always around to assist!

Yeah, I suspect the QC is doing some truncating to handle it a little more gracefully as a glance through the docs say it has a limit of 21ms for IRs. I had no idea the Science ones were so long as I've never had any issues previously.

Want to make sure they load properly and give it another test as they are some of my favourites!

Thanks for the pointers!!!

Aside from struggling with the cabinet side of things, I do like the sound of the power amp sim with my other preamp pedals. When I dialled in, I even liked Peggy more than expected.

Yes, I just saw that in the QC manual - this is to do with latency in the device and is a prudent course of action on thier part.

Glad to hear you are enjoying GENOME - you might want to give THE 400 a demo btw, it is an absolute beast! :)

I'll look into it although at the moment I'm purely looking for stuff available on the Opus itself. There's a possible band on the horizon and I don't want to get too attached to anything I can't gig with!

Well, that is completely understandable! Godspeed sir and if you need anything else, let me know!

There are a lot of options with the Opus that don't fit into the traditional box of how a rig should work.

Preamps by themselves, power amps by themselves, cabinets by themselves, and each of these with and without Post EQ and with different gain / volume settings.

Using different combinations of elements in the signal chain - it is 'almost' limitless.

It's kind of easy to get overwhelmed by the options and getting lost in the weeds, therefore it might be better to keep things as simple as possible starting off and then you can build and expand from there.

The biggest thing that helps me is to try the Presets you create while playing along with music that is somewhat representative of what you expect to be playing in the gig scenario, because sometimes what sounds great soloed will get lost in the mix of a band context!

Best of luck to you.

Absolutely!

So far very impressed with the power amp sim, I previously got the DG Element and the power amp modelling there was atrocious, totally unusable.

I think I’ll probably grab the Opus on payday. I'm pretty confident I'll find something in the cabs I like.

I’ve got quite a few recordings I can drop the bass out of and use them to dial it in a bit. 🙌

I guess because the Opus is more targeted to guitarists, there are a boatload of guitar cabs provided, but the bass cabs are not that many that come preloaded with Opus (I started of using a few of the guitar cabinets, rather than the bass cabs).

The optional bass cabs you can preview online, generally run about $10 each to purchase.
I only bought three - the Standard Powerhouse 1000, the REA One, and the Don Bronco Evo 115 Neo.
I think I can get any sound I want out of those (plus the Fridge which is one of the provided cabs).

Good luck!
