Two Notes Audio User Group

There are a lot of options with the Opus that don't fit into the traditional box of how a rig should work.

Preamps by themselves, power amps by themselves, cabinets by themselves, and each of these with and without Post EQ and with different gain / volume settings.

Using different combinations of elements in the signal chain - it is 'almost' limitless.

It's kind of easy to get overwhelmed by the options and getting lost in the weeds, therefore it might be better to keep things as simple as possible starting off and then you can build and expand from there.

The biggest thing that helps me is to try the Presets you create while playing along with music that is somewhat representative of what you expect to be playing in the gig scenario, because sometimes what sounds great soloed will get lost in the mix of a band context!

Best of luck to you.
Sage Advice right here! :)

Funnily enough ive been using a Mesa RR215 IR so these caught my attention.

Well I've ordered the Opus so by the end of the week I should have this compact board set up 🙌

2 questions that have probably been asked before -

1. Can you power the opus from a Cioks supply?

2. Anyone got pics of an opus or C.A.B. mounted to a pedal board?
Here are a couple of posts from this thread that have pix:

Thanks for getting in touch. You can indeed power OPUS off a Cioks PSU provided you are using the 12V tap. Huge thanks to @John D Harris for the pics here! You can also head over to our dedicated Facebook community where users are always sharing pictures of their boards: Log in to Facebook

Maybe it is just me, but I'm finding that if I want a Preset using a certain Cab Sim, it is better to start with the Cab with no EQ and then play around with the mics until you've found a tone you like, then start adding whatever additional elements you want - that way you aren't struggling with trying to fix a wonky cab tone somewhere else in the chain.

Reverse Engineering... 🤖

Making some major changes on my board in anticipation of OPUS II arriving on the scene.

Having discovered the IMMENSE utility of the Source Audio UltraWave Bass I've shed three pedals (all great, just unnecessary now). The only Boss pedals staying in the game is the RC-5 Stereo Looper. Changed out the Spectrum Intelligent Filter with the C4 Synth that has all the SIF vibe. And finally am parting with the glorious Boss RE-202 (begrudgingly) and the Pigtronix Constellator BBD Analog Delay, for the Source Audio Collider Stereo Delay/Reverb. (I also REALLY like a Binson style delay, too.)

I'll be putting the DRY (clean) signal from the One Control Crimson Red Bass Preamp to the UltraWave Bass with #2 Channel to the OPUS II with another Broughton B/BA. Tubby Dubby.

All further processing will be interconnected from UWB #1 Channel to C4 #1 Channel with the Collider #1 Channel (Delay) in the #2 Channel (Loop) of the C4 then out #1 Channel of the C4 to #2 Channel of the Collider (Reverb) to Broughton B/BA and OPUS I for the processed WET signal. (Realizing that I'm violating Orthodoxy, but I think in this mix context it will be just fine!)

Another thingy has crossed my path...(you may POSSIBLY see a utility that I do)...if your working with a really processed Bass sound that lives in the Octaver Zone - I'm going to put a 5 string 34" scale, single MM pickup in play as a Piccolo Bass. (65 -52 - 42 - 32 - 25w)

Having the freedom to play, track well and better timber below the 12th fret area in normal position (or if ya have a 6 string already) the sound can really be striking! Also, the things you can do when not cramped in the upper register are nice.

Not my idea, but I'm running with it....;)

100% on the money here! That is exactly the way I work - essentially getting my foundation tone first then using subtractive EQ only to further refine the tonal response!

Sounds like it should sound really great - I'm hoping you can do some sound clips when you get everything sorted out!

I second this! Some board pics and some audio would be absolutely killer!
Hey Ross & JDH,

Pics always...will see about sound, perhaps a finished recording. I'm not a home studio kat.

(I sold the RE-202 this morning. Will be moving to the SA Collider.)

I'm kinda passively shopping the Bass at the moment. There is a more traditional contender here on TB and I spoke with the guy. Another is a Bongo 5H+Piezo. Something about the Bongo speaks to me for this?

I also found out that I can get the Turner multi-coil pickup @ $275 in either the no ears MMSR5 or the Bongo 5H pickup shape.

Will be talking to my go to guy on OPUS II tomorrow... probably have that next week.

This tone always made me lust after a Bongo (I had a 1998 SR5H that I played for almost 25 years - great bass):

The Start of Something Beautiful

First off, I'm a big fan of the Opus and bought it pretty much as soon as it came out. It hasn't left my board since then. Second, though, is my current question. I usually lean towards dirty, overdriven tones. The Opus definitely has those in spades. I've struggled with getting a good clean tone though. I'm talking something really clean...like you'd hear from a lot of the jazzier players. Has anyone found good settings in the Opus to get this sort of tone?

FWIW my main bass is an Ibanez BTB865SC with a Lusithand Double NFP preamp.

Opus arrived, not attached yet but had a dig around and set up an initial patch, so far sounds great.

It also works fine with the Science IRs which didn't work on Genome without modification 👌

PS The Turner pickups are excellent, I've got them in my modded Schecter P4:

Are those English or Standard voiced?

Preamp or passive wired?
